What a perfect wave. Would love to think you could paddle into it at that size, but anything that stacks up like that, on a beach break, is realy moving fast, so I doubt you would have much chance of doing more than chasing it down the face a running away at the bottom, which is not fun for long. Sure would love to try mind.

Looks like outside reef to me, no sand in the water. But hey, I wasn't there. I got no issues with people towing in 2' surf as long as there not doing it where people are paddling in (that they don't personally know).

charging for sure, but no need to tow in here. a nice size gun would do the trick

The only thing I dislike about towing is the petrolium usage, but hey, you drove to the ocean right? Might as well drive in the ocean. I feel each has it's own place. And in swells over 15ft, I'd feel a lot happier with a ski in the water even if I am paddling. Damn, I won't go near swells over 15ft. Heck, 6ft reef breaks still scare the crap out of me... But I agree, if people are paddling, and making a decent percentage of their waves, don't tow or don't go.

You are totally right. Nelscot has a channel but its way out there. The beach break is brutal when it gets over 15 foot swells.

Agreed Francois, personally I hate the idea of tow-in but leave them at it, although, if even one surfer is paddling in to the waves these guys need to piss off and go water skiing someplace else.

If you didn't notice they said it was a beachbreak. That means that it might have been damn near impossible to get to backline, as many beachbreaks offer no channel and no safe entry, with the only way out back through paddling and duckdiving through all the foam. Unless this beach has a mammoth channel, it would be very difficult to get out back. So, the only options are either to get towed out back by a ski and then start paddling, or to get towed out and start towing. I don't see a problem with towing. Another possiblity why they are towing might be that the peak is erratic, and that the wave rarely breaks on the same spot, and many other possible reasons. Don't judge if you don't know the conditions. You can only say they should have paddled if you where there and actually paddled successfully yourself.
