Beautiful picture sick day. I use to live right around the corner at Sharks Cove back in the early 80's surfed it a few times back when 25 guys was a crowd got a few waves, Never surfed it enough or had the guts to dig into one that big! Funny about the American comments though. I was never a big Bush fan, but I find it funny how all you dush bags forget who saved all your asses and mine too when this guy named Hitler was mowing down most of the world. My pops joined up a week after Pearl Harbor many of your dads did too and because of them and guys like my brother and many of your brothers we got to and still get to live free and SURF! After all it wasn't that long ago now was it? I get it there hasn't been a war like WW2 ever and hopefully there never will be again, but check your history books. You might need a make up course. Ok thats it no more political comments this is a surf site. Hawaii is pumping Cali has been pumping and there are even a few smallies in Indo...

..and we nearly lost their alliance thanks to Roosevelt letting Starlin believe D-day would happen a year earlier, frightening prospect as Starlin and Hitler had the same agenda.

Hey tjo...Did you realize Soutie's line above about a 6 string guitar is actually lyrics from a song?...He's been known to pull stuff like that...Yes, I Googled it shortly after he posted it...but waited to see if anyone noticed or recognized it...'Foreigner' was the group...as I recall what Google told me.

Coleo, I'm not from your country, so I shouldn't even be speaking. But have you not yet realized how poor of a job the black man has done? He is screwing the world over. It's going to take more than his bullshit sweet talk to make me like the black bastard. What would you have done if you were president? Bush knocked out the bad guys (which was 100% necessary), made a mess in the process, and began to clean it up. A man needs to protect his country no regardless of what measures that ensues. What would you have done? I'm only curios...

Do we get any points if we're NOT flag-wavin' fakers...ARE from Kelly's State(Flatness-Forever_Florida)...and voted AGAINST Dubya-Bush in both of his elections and FOR Obama two+ years ago?...Tony Blair was a Dubya enabler, ya know. HE could have stopped that Iraq malarky with a little backbone. What about THAT...America bashers from Britain? Selective memories, ehhh?

jugglia's avatar

jugglia Jan 29, 2011 Rating: 2

I think there's a middle way with all of this "my country's better than your country" crap. Having lived in the states, I can confirm that it is both awesome and shit - just like every other country in the world. The fact that so many people associate themselves so strongly with their flag is just a load of crap. It's an us and them mentality, and actually there is no "them" it's just us. Kelly Slater's a legend, hooray! George Bush is an asshole - boo! Therefore you're cool because you come from the same country as Slater, but you're an asshole because you come from the same country as George W - WTF?

Every time i watch the Eddie I always see people burning each other at Waimea. And now that I think of it at Mavs too. I think when it is monster size paddle in, Once you are committed it is safer to take the drop and kick out then to back out and get pitched over the falls.

tjo's avatar

tjo Jan 27, 2011 Rating: 1

in big wave surfing its called sharing, not burning

Tequila Sunrise's avatar

agreed. spots like chopes or shippies are so critical that often there's one line to take. and if you don't take it, you're eatin it!

Sneakybadger 's avatar

Sneakybadger Jan 27, 2011 Rating: 4

I would say that only applies to open faced waves though, i don't think it would be appreciated at Chopes or Shippies!?

Rules?...We don't nee...er I mean. The Golden Rule will do. And...falling off and having your board clobber someone else in the head is considered bad form...and will cost you etiquette points.

Jack Glick's avatar

Jack Glick Jan 27, 2011 Rating: 4

is the knowledge of big-wave paddle-in etiquette really that rare? as the post above says, spots from Mav's to Waimea are rife with photos and videos of guys sharing waves...I don't know if it's a norm or custom or rule, but it's accepted that there's not really any drop-ins on waves of that consequence
