Looks to me as if he is preventing his board form going over the falls; thus, increasing speedy ability to retrieve his board and claim another wave. This photo displays a surfer who has knowledge, skills and abilities that are cognitively deep. I learned something valuable from this photo; therefore, thanks for sharing. Cheers, Adam

Pulled my leash through my stringer doing this about a year ago start of season. Too broke too buy a new one, not smart enough to fix it. It has progressed to a fish from a squaretail in the last year. Probably about time to make the investment!

As surfboards become ever more expensive, brazilian locals take to new measures in aquiring their own 6'4"

Just let it go, man. That's why there's that velcro around your ankle.

1 board and hes going down again!!!!!!Stick another barrel on him!!!! Great test of the leashes stretch capability, wonder what make it is? answers on a postcard boys and girls

I bet this picture has a story behind it. If you fancy yourself as a writer and have a good surfing story to tell; e-mail it to surfersmemoirs@live.co.uk You could have a chance of having the story published. Also join Surfer's Memoirs on facebook!!

I encourage everyone to write a bullshit story to this guy! ......about tomatoes!

Great shot, must be strange to be in the lonely place of a wipe out, only to have a photographer below you taking your photo. Do you strike up a sign conversation, smile for the camera, or carry on trying to stop your rail saver from tearing through your swallow tail?
breakerbreaker Mar 10, 2011 Rating: 5
Stargate said i could bring my board with me , but it wasnt easy .

I love beef curtains me !! Mar 10, 2011 Rating: -2
Best kept on a leash i'd say! it needs a muzzle before it bites someone!
potato-head assasination Mar 10, 2011 Rating: 5
Man the crime out there must be really bad. at least by me they wait till im out of the water to steal my board
Brod The Magnificent Mar 10, 2011 Rating: -2
Been there. But closer to the tube about to go over, looking away, eyes shut and mouth open in silent scream.

Good way to lose some fingers! Would like to see that sequence! Bad times.

Dave thought his ultra-fun game of 'grab your mates leash as he passes' was brill and took it to a whole new level
CouncilVan Mar 10, 2011 Rating: 5
*trys to hold back a blonde joke* Oh don't ya just hate it when someone has to explain a joke...
jimjamborey Mar 10, 2011 Rating: -12
that's not his mates board, or the leash wouldnt be on his own leg would it??!
brian wu Mar 10, 2011 Rating: -26
Not sure why you all applaud this? He has clearly bailed under this 2footer, and then the fail was caught on camera. There is no other explanation.
Justin Phipps Mar 10, 2011 Rating: 0
yeah.. well ive got bigger balls....i even wear out my jeans in the crutch.
Shred Mar 10, 2011 Rating: 0
No one pointed out why he is wearing an 8ft leash on a knee high bomb? Or just the fact why he wearing a leash when its that small.
Saga Nit Not Mar 10, 2011 Rating: 1
its obvious whats happened here ... here what happens when your average msw user meets water
E Mar 10, 2011 Rating: 0
Nice CSI work mate. My guess is he bailed on the wave prior to this one and wasn't able to get his board back before the shot and ducked out grabbed his leash to keep his board for a quick return after the wave passed. Thats what would have been goin thru my mind in that split second.
Martin Lange Mar 10, 2011 Rating: 4
he is not bailing. I personally think that he went under the wave and let his board go. Cause if he bailed, or fail, there would be a trail of foam following from the top, breaking the surface, like the wave does. He is clean underwater, which means he's been under the water before the wave passed him over. I think thats the explanation. Still an awesome shot!
brian wu Mar 10, 2011 Rating: -8
No I was not saying that at all. I've got no problem with kooks, we all had to start somewhere. Was just pointing out something that maybe nobody else notice as a possible explanation.
Will Ellis Mar 10, 2011 Rating: 5
And why is that significant? Why do people always try and show the world on MSW that they have the biggest balls in the world. It is a forum. Enjoy the pictures - end of story, stop trying to prove that you can surf better / drop in steeper etc. Great picture by the way...
swwl Mar 10, 2011 Rating: 0
keep getting told to get a fish,no one tells you its this difficult tho!
wexico Mar 10, 2011 Rating: 0
thats a 2 footer which clearly makes his board about a foot and a half.
LeBigKahuna Mar 10, 2011 Rating: 3

"We've got a live one boys, from up here it looks like we've hooked a rare blue shorted brazillian goofy footer. He's struggling. Reel him in boys"

I took a picture like this up at Scarborough, if you squinted through the hepititis haze you could just about make out the nappy wrapped around my mates fins
wexico Mar 10, 2011 Rating: 0
Scarborough can be a nasty little wave on low tide. as i discovered last sunday when i banged my vagina on the sandbank. love this pic too. behind the wave shots like this show a complete different side to surfing.
