this picture is the perfect example to show how photography changed in the past decades. 10 year ago would need a perfect wave to have a cover or photo of the day.

And whos to say that wasn't the prefect wave for that surfer? Perception has changed, it's not the photo's we're being fed en masse... It's about composure and artistry... This picture is gorgeous, nearly silent in a way, peaceful... Beautiful colours... Added to favourites....

....Seems Mickey and Fergal are raising the bar in both photography and surfing each month. Mickey right up there with Little and Alex Williams as far as I'm concerned, and Fergal punting all over the show like Dane Reynolds. Keep it coming. Ireland should be proud.

ED- now there's an idea - The MSW Annual! wait a minute though, let me explain. There has been some epic photos on here and there has been some epic features but there has also been some classic, hilarious comments both in the photos and in the forums. the MSW 2010/2011 annual will sum up all the best of the photos, features and comments in a nice thick door stop we can all take to the bog in the morning before work! Who said you have to move from print to online! why cant it go backwards!!

Ed – I’m not saying either. And I’m certainly not saying that ‘good’ photos shouldn’t be on the site. Geez…some of the images on this site are more mind blowing than a lot of what you have to pay for in ad-intensive pages of surf mags these days. My main point was that the photographer that captured this moment deserves to be paid for it. Such an incredible image. But since posting the comment I’ve also realized that the image is being used by the Cold Pro Festival – so I assume Mickey Smith will get some coin for the use of the shot. Either way – stoked that I got to see it….stared at it for ages. Thanks to Mikey…thanks to MSW….thanks to the golden hour…thanks to the surfer and punt…and sorry for any confusion.

I think this is the most confused thread I've ever read. What are you saying? That a good photo has no place in the world's largest collection of surf photography? Instead it should be in a magazine hidden from 99 percent of surfers?
