ireland = proof that paradise does not always include palm trees and sandy beaches (even though i've seen em both over there ;)
Sunspot Apr 18, 2011 Rating: 0
though somehow paradise without palm trees and sandy beaches just doesn't cut it

All you need is a wetsuit and the biggest pair of balls available...
Sunspot Apr 18, 2011 Rating: -1
...and a barge to carry them, besides, they don't do wetsuits for balls that big!!

ireland could have had a QS event but ISA refused and didnt want one as they didnt want to cause over crowding in ireland. i lived there for a good while and its hardly crowded! and ireland could definatly do with the economy boost the an event would bring!
sniperpaddy Apr 20, 2011 Rating: 0
The ISA are already dealing in petty politics. More likely, they tried to get greedy with QuickSilver and were told to piss off.
Tbayers Apr 18, 2011 Rating: 0
Crowded Lahinch is hardly worth talking about when theres better world class waves not been ridden nearby!?
Eiresurfer Apr 18, 2011 Rating: 5
"hardly crowded"? Next weekend is the Easter weekend and the forecast is for good waves. Come to Lahinch, and you'll see just how crowded it's gonna be.
krusher74 Apr 17, 2011 Rating: 1
You just put the comp at somewhere like bundoran that already over crowded and very well known, Ireland is no secret anymore anyway.
Tbayers Apr 16, 2011 Rating: 0
Some joke ok..then they go and have the Europeans. Let the real competitions take place!!
mulletamoeba Apr 15, 2011 Rating: 1
The key thing here is that with that wind direction, the 5th hole in lahinch would have a lovely manageable approach shot...
Super_keen Apr 20, 2011 Rating: 0
Yep, and don't forget to shout if one goes astray. Those surfers down there aern't all wearing helmets... strangely!

Its near impossible to believe that Ireland stayed off the map for so long. It seems surfriders in the past only stuck to where they knew there were waves (AKA crowded spots). Launch the advent of virgin explorations and BOOM!, suddenly there appear to be waves from Russia to Malta to Falkland Islands to...etc. A decade and half ago a bodyboarding expedition hit a spot in Ireland named McGanns. Anyone know if its still that name? Anyway, a freakin incredible mutant of a sucker.
kernowbysvyken Apr 15, 2011 Rating: 0
Went there about 13 years ago with an Irish mate, he was sure it'd be pumping, it was about a foot and messy. Bugger. The pub was pretty good from what I remember though
sniperpaddy Apr 15, 2011 Rating: -2
That photo looks like Doolin Reef and there is a pub there called McGanns :)

He sure is snipes...Either that or he's into S & M...I'm just guessing it's the M stuff...Still...there's no reason us weeders have to suffer is there?;^)

You're right. They do indeed have the gift of the gab. Top o' the marnin tuya !!
Coelacanth Apr 17, 2011 Rating: -1
I agree with you sniperpaddy. Good for you to try to recognize & try correct this little bit of unfairness. The wordplay with the misspelling of 'worldly' was clever and should have been rewarded...not negged. Some people are sooo touchy & humor impaired sometimes?
sniperpaddy Apr 15, 2011 Rating: 2
C'mon lads, don't be downscoring him for a little dig like that. It just makes you look sad. I wonder how namy would downscore if Ed actually showed their names.
WonderJew Apr 14, 2011 Rating: 5
why the hell is there not at least a QS or yearly stop on the world tour in Ireland yet! Think the country has proven that its wordy enough for it.

Sometimes the dragon wins!...I signed the online petition against this project earlier...one of many thousands worldwide, btw...thanks to MSW...This project does stink of croney-ism, corruption, shortsightedness and willfull ignorance. But it never hurts to know how the other side thinks in order to frame arguments against them with your presumably neutral, fair & objective national authorities. I understand there is still a chance to delay, modify or halt this Doolin pier project via the Foreshore permit process. Sorry about not knowing all the local, pertinent facts there outside of your 'obviously' biased newspapers. I've been a little distracted myself by the blatant corruption of our new Florida governor, Rick Scott(you should read what all the newspapers say about him!)...who's even now an embarrassment to members of his own party(& those that voted for him) and causes daily outrages and calls by many for a recall of his election. He's a 'Tea Party' Republican, btw. Who spent $78 million of his own money...and more from others...to get elected!!! One of many corrupt, election-donor paybacks attempted so far was a proposed construction of a golfcourse in the middle of a much-treasured 10,000+ plus acre state park...a rare, still-undeveloped, wildlife-rich natural oasis in the midst of sprawling, almost malignant, suburban-urban SE coastal corridor megalopolis...Our state is now called Florida, Inc. in derision of his anti-government, pro-developer 'agenda'. Only the rich & connected are prospering...and playing lots of golf.

Chill dude. We're all on the same side here. I should be glad to help advance someone's knowledge rather than slate them for trying to learn.
Tbayers Apr 22, 2011 Rating: 0
You dont have a clue what you are talking about. If every one was to listen to the opinions of papers we would all be f****d!! Go look at the hard facts, not the easy option of biased newspaper articles!!

I did a little searching for background info. on the Crab Island/Doolin Pier issue to try and understand both sides of the conflict of interests. These are the best of what I found...(1)http://www.examiner.ie/ireland/coastguard-unit-urges-go-ahead-in-pier-plan-147101.html...(2)http://www.clarechampion.ie/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5107:doolin-pier-plan-to-ruin-waves&catid=66:north&Itemid=56...(3)http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/travel/2010/1113/1224283201796.html

I think you're probably right there portpipe; iIt's very likely I misheard 13% as 30%. Real figures: Adventure tourism is worth 1.1 billion out of 5 billion total, so that's 20%. Subtracting golf etc at least halves that to 10% for surfing. It's estimated to increase by 24% by 2013.
Sunspot Apr 18, 2011 Rating: -1
The O' Neil Cold Water Classic would be appropriate don't you think?
sniperpaddy Apr 15, 2011 Rating: 12
Jesus, don't get me going here. I agree with you; Clare County council don't give a shit about surfing. They bullied and dissembled in the planning for the Doolin pier and they voted to dissolve the right of way in Doonbeg. It's the old Fianna Fail way where the interests of the developer override the national interest. Currently surfing accounts for 30% of our tourism and these gimps cannot see further than the length of a brown envelope.
emmettg Apr 14, 2011 Rating: 11
If Clare county council see this they will land a pier into the lineout. Save crab island.
