BOOM!! Easily my favourite wave in the world, many happy memories here from my 2 years in Oz. I befriended a family called The Stoneys and they took me to Bears on numerous occasions...once when i smashed my nose on a nice big surprise set...shark terror kicked in! Look out for Andrew Stone...he's in the line up most days...and most likely in this picture somewhere :)

OoooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhMG!!! What a great scenery, mate!! Great shot

Now that just looks like heaven for an old belly rider. Good size solid swell without the fear off getting mashed. Bliss!

That's a big score for the man surfing deep - what are the masses waiting for on the right - sloppy seconds?

Great composition. You're watching the guys, watching the waves. Is that barbie smoke drifting out to sea in the foreground...??
psalm 77:19a May 27, 2011 Rating: -2
wow! that is a wave. This is the picture that should be shown when someone asks what is surfing like

Now that is an amazing shot. Good work. The little rainbow in the spray just finishes it off. The fella on the bench is so transfixed, he's left himself wide open for a wedgie deluxe if he's not careful.
evanalmighty234 May 26, 2011 Rating: 0
he surfs like me. goes for the first wave of the set then the much bigger ones come later. Sorry dude i know how u feel.
luisspellcast May 26, 2011 Rating: 0
its shots like this that really makes you want to travel with your board.... .. ... . granted you don't live a couple miles down from them..... .
markdasurfer May 26, 2011 Rating: 0
this captures everything to do with surfing. Crowds, onlookers, wind and epic waves :)

And it underlines, and acts as an unneeded reminder of, the fact that I am unworthy. Awesome - the total package.
Coelacanth May 27, 2011 Rating: -1
My bad...Rad...dude. The contrast between this SW OZ unreal awesomeness...and our miserable, awful(AND very sharky)reality in flatness-forever-Florida must have blown my mental circuit breakers for a while there. I would wear Lady GaGa's meat dress into our Stuart Beach lineup if it would get us waves like this. I am serious.
Coelacanth May 27, 2011 Rating: -2
I missed you Mel...Glad to see you back!:^)...Was it the Disney World 'Small World' song lyrics that drew you back to MSW.
Mel in Florida May 27, 2011 Rating: -1
yess rock lobster (wait, somethings different about your name!), there are sharks everywhere here! guess they keep us company when there aren't any other surfers in the lineup (which is rare)
RadXCor May 26, 2011 Rating: -1
Haha, dude. Fl is the shark bite capital of the world. I've seen plenty of sharks in the lineup and I wouldn't mind seeing a few more to surf a wave like that. =D
Coelacanth May 26, 2011 Rating: -2
And southFLsurfer...You wouldn't want to live anywhere in Australia...especially SW OZ...It's WAY too sharky!
Coelacanth May 26, 2011 Rating: -2

doobie mcshitlips May 26, 2011 Rating: -3
after clawing his way into that one he bearly made it what with the growling offshore and that section bearing down on him . you know he'll be back fur more

There is a difference between the date the photo was taken (in the past) and the forecast (which is generally about the future) DOH
Holy Wave May 26, 2011 Rating: 0
Accurate MSW forecast ever... I wish to be ripping that 2 ft wave. Keep Riding.
mawikid May 26, 2011 Rating: 2
The swell energy amounts to 6 ft... not when the wave forms and breaks

When I surf a spot I buy a print on demand, I now feel the need to get out here do the wave and buy the print.
farscapes May 26, 2011 Rating: 4
Three bears? Nah. Got to be at least five bears and a stoat for a swell that good. Weird rating system anyway.....
tilerboy1981 May 29, 2011 Rating: -1
sorry its been a long time since i travelled there. never heard of the place before i got there, was lucky to get taken to the spot by a local in the back of his 4x4.
andyroo May 27, 2011 Rating: 0
1/2 right, the 3 bears NEVER EVER all link up (in 20 years + I have seen it anyway) due to channel / section between mamas and babies so dream on re loong wave, very very few long waves sw wa, short and intense is the rule when swell up.. The photo is a guy who made a good drop and is about to be closed out on as u can see, that section falls, crowd is at end section of long sectioning closeout at that size that lets you ride it for a bit into the rip at the end. Think poorer, shorter impossibles in bali but a lot colder and sharkier..... New seal colony formed 5 years ago about 3 miles north on the cape creating a bit of a men in grey suits issue over last few years with numerous sightings, myself included, from in the lineup.ouch! Petitioning for seal meat in restaurants :) Noone been taken from here yet, last 2 locals surfers were taken south a few miles sadly..
sniperpaddy May 26, 2011 Rating: -2
He definitely had to do a long circuit out & across to be able to catch the break so far upstream. The others look like they were doing small circuits.
tilerboy1981 May 26, 2011 Rating: 1
the wave has three sections papa muma and baby bears. Think the group are maybe sitting at baby. the biggest out back being papa. When it's good they can all link up.
39 May 26, 2011 Rating: -7
O rthey have all just got waves and are paddling back out on the shoulder instead of getting wasted paddling through the peak.
farscapes May 26, 2011 Rating: 21
Also, kudos for the guy being about 100 yards deeper than everyone else. Either that or the rest of them just got the party wave of the century.
