I can empathise with your situation, and I condemn all those with no respect for both the places they visit and wider natural environment. I admire and respect your passion for your place of birth something I as a person with no real roots who is constantly on the move cannot begin to understand. Bottom line is that we all make an impact on this world some more visible than others. The internet isn’t magic it requires vast data centres that use massive amounts of power this has a direct impact on other peoples live effectively crapping on their shores just as the toffs do on “yours”. Those based in the grothole of Southampton and similar places would doubtless prefer an unspoilt view than that of refinery’s but like it or not we are all reliant on those facilities to a greater or lesser extent depending on how committed we are not to use energy and plastics blah blah blah. Exploitation of the south west is not a new phenomenon it has been getting busier and busier since the Victorians opened the region up to the masses through rail travel. The global population is expanding and sharing the limited resources we have with others is an inevitable consequence. Those that visit should have respect but as a nation we are a mish mash of cultures and genetic roots. There is no such thing as “local” in the UK. A gene test will reveal the true extent of your localism and I very much doubt in extends back in Braunton to the dawn of time (unless of course you have 3 arms and an extra head?). Focus on the positive and get some perspective. You are living the dream all be it in a crappy bedsit with no job prospects! Those in Darfur have to put up with “blow ins” that carve up their wives and children with machete’s in front of their eyes. Truly indigenous populations the world over are plagued by plastic waste migrating to their shores directly affecting their fishing and ability to survive. A few knob jockeys in their T5’s is a very minor issue in the wider perspective of things. If they really bother you do what I do, find a different spot, there’s loads where you are, get up earlier and earlier. I have never surfed with more than circa 5 people out with me. Granted I don’t always get the best session or spots but that’s my compromise and in life we all have to compromise. Use some of that bitterness and anger to positive effect organise a beach clean up (you may already have done 100’s apologies if you have). Take positive action, educate people make a few signs asking people to respect where they are and put them up down your favourite cove. Don’t dwell on those few idiots, if we all took a few bits of litter home with us when we visit a break then it would make a massive impact and minimise that of the few fools. Seriously get yourself a woman/man/dog enjoy where you are in life. The thought of you festering with bitterness in anger in your crappy bedsit over a few big haired fops makes me sad xxx

I never expected those of you who aren't inherently attached to a nice (but over exploited) corner of the South West peninsular to understand. I can afford to live in this area because I live in a cheap & shitty bed-sit in the middle of Braunton. Those who live in North Devon have few job prospects and are poorly paid but still have to cope with the high costs of living inflamed by the tourist industry. So forgive me if I find the troops of Hooray Henry's and well-to-dos who plague and litter my shores (because surfing makes them a part of 'the scene')a tad irritating.

nick griffin, is that you? After our usual epic morning session the crew and I were supping double latte's on the promenade the other day with one eye guarding the reef against infiltrators when what did I spot on the floor...an airplane ticket from Honolulu to Bournemouth, return! Stay off our waves brah! I think if you can afford to live in the south west after returning from your gap yah you should have the place to yourself with non of these commoners.

Well whatta you know, I agree with you!? Me a "blow-in" agrees with a local, wow! Every surfer should have respect for others in or out of the water in my opinin, and not leave litter on the beach, but if you think its only "blow-ins" you are mistaken, in my experience locals can be the just as bad, for both littering and being disrespectful in or out of the water. There should be a better protocol for incompetent or dis-respectful surfers, but all this "its only the outsiders who are at fault" tosh is exactly that.

Yes I do, however I take with me a respect for the local surfers and people in general. Which is more that can be said for 99% of 'blow-ins'. I had a beach party over last weekend at Croyde, my favourite cove was filled with litter in amongst which was a return train ticket from Southampton to Barnstaple! And that's just one example!!!!!!!!

Me too, then we wouldn't have incompetent 'blow-ins' clogging up the North Devonian waves.
