he must have been running pretty fast to slide all the way out there on his skimboard

Yeaaah! Andrew Mooney is an absolutely hell surfer and has zero ego. I had him here in Taiwan on a shoot and he ripped - and grinned - the whole time. And a great shot Mr Mark Y, perfect timing!

Reeeeeeeespect! The man has gargantuan kajunas. If he still has them that is...
novocainer Jul 28, 2011 Rating: 3
Great photo! I love that its not a run of the mill closeup shot, but you actually captured how massive that beast is!
BANGER Jul 28, 2011 Rating: 2
thats the first time I have ever read ALL the comments on an MSW shot....Seriously hope this guy made it. If he did how did he make it...any sequence shots? This is an unbelievable shot, and why oh why is he dragging his hand!? Surely it's time to run for the door pal? BIG BALLS. BIG RESPECT.

Yeah, I copied it too. Then I opened it in photoshop, blew it up x3000, took its fingerprints, checked it over with a sniffer-dog, pulled on some latex gloves.... Then a tiny little policeman opened the top of my tiny little skull from the inside, jumped out and arrested the photograph on a charge of impersonating a real live wave. The poor photo got banged up (in Dungeons) for, I dunno, fucking ages- and its only visitors were an endless queue of sad twats who bang on about pics on MSW being photoshopped.

Hey guys I am the photographer of this beautiful photo, it was a bit of a snap decision to take this particular shot. I don’t have a tripod or a very flash camera, just a point and shoot $300 camera. Scrambling along the rocks to see this set coming, this group of tow guys whipped this dude into this beast, and this photo is the outcome. Don’t know this hell man, but would like to give him a copy if he wants one, all in all I surprised myself when I looked at this photo, so to all the non-believers, straight off the camera, no Photoshop.

This photo scares the life out of me. i dont even think id ever want to do anything like that.

It looks like the sky has been retouched. Which raises concerns about the rest of the picture.
Mark Y Jul 28, 2011 Rating: 1
Hey Turtleman, as a fellow countryman from Cornwall, England I can assure you that this photo is genuine, no photoshop no nothing straight off the camera. Believe me this guys ripped on every wave, not sure if you can tell but he did get towed into this one and many others

I feel sorry for people who have to be cynical about shots like this, you really need travel more if you find it hard to believe.
turtleman Jul 27, 2011 Rating: -5
I copied it, took it into photoshop and zoomed it to maximum and there's also a dark halo along the top edge of the broken wave in the foreground. sorry guys

Im sure you will be getting a call from redbull any few days. Unreal

Looks like outside Macmasters Point. Initially thought it was outside Avoca Point but water is too deep there.

That looks more dangerous than camping on an isolated Norwegian island.
compcomplex Jul 27, 2011 Rating: 2
The pic has it all: Power, beauty, grace...even a couple of crazy-ass mo-fo's. Nothin' but respect tho...

I'm dually amazed by the greatness of this picture, and the fact that after more than a few dozen votes, the rating is still hovering over 4.9...class shot!
RadXCor Jul 27, 2011 Rating: 1
Just let me go out there, let me get one wave before you take me. One wave.
bazza Jul 27, 2011 Rating: 7
If I was out there I'd hang around on the inside and get a few smaller ones. The inside looks mellow.
Gridkid Jul 29, 2011 Rating: -1
Yep, Copa's a left point. If it was taken at Macs it should be labelled Macmasters Point. Either way, one hell of a shot!
justcallmejock Jul 27, 2011 Rating: 30
You're all getting confused, that's not his hand dragging behind him. That's his balls!
Arctic10101 Jul 27, 2011 Rating: 0
Personaly if I were there i'd have to wrap my balls around my neck a few times and thats before i even get wet
nosurf2day Jul 27, 2011 Rating: 0
Why the heck is he dragging his arm. There is no way he was going too fast for that wave. Damn that board is tiny for such a large wave, wonder if he towed in?
feckoff Jul 27, 2011 Rating: 1
Stalling into the high line for the tube he's about to get?? Err no, he's screwed..
fluid floyd Jul 27, 2011 Rating: 0
Looks like he`s going too slow on a short board but I hope he made it.
Filipb Jul 27, 2011 Rating: 1
I seriously hope that guy doesn't get dragged over the falls... enjoy your swim.
ferretboy Jul 27, 2011 Rating: -1
