I'm genuinely puzzled as what kind of idiot would have marked down my comment. Lahinch is my main surfing area and Aileen's is a magic wave. Unless of course the Yanks resent being outdone? ;)

Amazing photograph! Very mystic feeling to it indeed, I think this track would accompany it well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjTxwuCkyjA It also remind me of the old guinness advert with the horses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9znA_dwjHw

The waves that rumble in, the mist that floats on colossal cliffs; in these things we like.
youdig Nov 25, 2011 Rating: 2
Sand eater is giving an opinion. He likes the shot. We all like the shot. It ranks amongst the best photos ever. Agreed!
Balthazar Nov 25, 2011 Rating: 2
Absolutely surreal shot ! There's something mystic about it - like if there were surfers in Lord of the Rings of something.
waves4andy Nov 25, 2011 Rating: 2
I can hear Leftfield's drums beating when I see this picture. Great shot.

That mist-shrouded, monolithic bluff in the background just enhances this really nice pic...for me ennyhoo...You get more of a visual sense of how the sea, air and land interact in cooler climes with it there. It makes it look mystical and exotic to this subtropical flatlander Flo-ridian in our usually flat corner of 'the pond'. It's amazing that the same Gulf Stream...that flows so close to our(usually)warm water coastline...carrying massive amounts of sun-warmed water from the Caribbean & Gulf northward(and moderating our climate a lot year-round)...actually contributes some slight warming to the cold Atlantic water off Ireland too...and helps create the conditions for those 'mystical' mists and fogs flowing up and over those massive, towering, sea blasted bluffs and cliffs.

I think it is great shot, but... would it be better if he photoshopped out the clouded mountain behind? I am not raising trouble, just discussing a designers point of view. I think it might be more epic without the mountain. I find it distracts a little from the surfer and the beautiful line of that monster wave. This is a classic pic. He is riding a rocket!
Sand Eater Nov 27, 2011 Rating: 1
No offense taken. I am a graphic designer by trade. We were always taught to remove any unnecessary information. These mountains are obviously necessary information! I haven't been surfing that long and obviously was way off in the thought to remove the mountain. Much more to learn about the surfers mind....

Don't take it too seriously Sandy, I'm kidding most of the time on this web site
Coelacanth Nov 25, 2011 Rating: 3
Even tho' I like to imagine a Gulf Stream connection to those tough, manly(ie. stand up...Sorry Porty, Dicer, et al)Irish big wave chargers...I would still probably cry like a girl when I first stuck my foot in the water there. But Coolio would still go...

WHAT? Are you crazy, the cliff makes the pic, otherwise it's just another rider on another wave.., pretty much

"Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, 'May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart." Mark 11:22 & 23.

Spooky!. Justifies why two elements make a picture. Classic capture

At first glance i thought it was Jeffreys Bay. Picture of superior quality!

African Perfection Guesthouse? We took the whole top floor 4 years ago. Awesome place.
youdig Nov 25, 2011 Rating: -1
I was joking. I was refering to a few days ago when a load of you lot thought pic of the day was Jeffreys, when it clearly was'nt. Fuck i hate hate explaining myself. Oh and i been to Jeffreys 3 times in total, staying at the beach house right in front of super tubes on each occasion. My darling wife and i hav'nt been for 2 years now due to our baby, so we are sticking to europe till such time we want to fly long haul. Cheers everyone!
Splat Nov 25, 2011 Rating: 0
Yep...don't know how you got J-Bay but my first thought was Table Mountain with some new mystery reef going off in Table bay
Sunspot Nov 25, 2011 Rating: 0
obviously never been to j-bay, which is flanked either side by miles and miles of rambling sandy beach
Bruce01 Nov 24, 2011 Rating: 2
Jefferies Bay? Is there another J-Bay besides in SA. I dont see any resembelance. Cliffs in the background, the way the wave is breaking? Oh well. Greeat pic!
