It's entirely in England, although very close to the border. West bank is Forest of Dean, east bank runs pretty close to the M5 and/or the City of Gloucester. Days like that at this particular spot are uncommon, but not rare. On the other hand, there will always be somewhere on the river working well, because there are so many sections, each needing different conditions.

Better explanation for you: I uploaded a video to youtube called "November tides: the Severn Bore explained", and asked Steve King, former distance surfing world record holder, to explain it, before showing some footage of another section of the bore working.

This is the tidal bore of the river Severn in Gloucestershire, England, not Porthcawl as the caption states...probably because this website doesn't have a spot listing for the Severn Bore... difficult to call it a "spot" when the wave runs for well over 20 miles. It's the same phenomenon as the Pororoca in Brazil, the Turnagain Arm, Cook Inlet, Alaska, or the Quiantang Silver Dragon in China, which is the big daddy of all tidal bores.Youtube will show you all of those waves working.

"Looks gay".... hollow head high waves on rivers must be common as muck in your area, yeh? Are you telling me you wouldn't surf it if you lived nearby? Of course you would. And it's a well taken shot as well. I know how fast that wave unloads, so that's great timing with the camera.

This is no secret. It's the Severn Bore at (or very near) the Severn Bore Inn, Minsterworth, Gloucestershire. Paddle across the river , follow the crowds.
