it's not the exact same wave... the one posted here is andy cambell's wave, the one in the link is dylan longbottom. both real waves, both tow-in, both extensively documented...

the picture that plugus posted the link for is the exact same wave, but the surfer is different - orange board and actually has the trailing wake

not a painting... footage of the whole wave was all over the tasmanian news when it happened. Rider is andy cambell and it was nominated for that year's ('03???) Billabong XXXL awards.. check it on youtube

suppose that the easiest way to know it a painting is that there is no trail from the surfer. where has he come from like? It is a savage painting though, right down to the rippling water in the foreground.
