You must be...don't you know about Nias? I thought every surfer worth his salt has seen a shot of the perfect barrel and wall with a background of sweeping dark coconut trees. It inspired me to go there in the early and late 90s, and one of my best friends who travelled with me is sitting in a hut on the point drinking Bintang as I write this! Lucky bastard!! But it's a fickle fucker of a place....

Thats the worst thing about surfing the east coast here in MD cause there are no channels (other than the brief openings right up against some jettys). So when its big out, you have to time the paddle right or your bound to get crushed, and even with perfect timing if your not a speed demon, you'll probably get crushed. Ohh, what I'd give to have a reef with a channel....

At the top of the reef there is a deep water channel called the 'keyhole' it takes you perfectly out back with no duck dives, which depending on how big it is can be either a good or very bad thing.

There was a cover of surfer in 1989 with a guy dropping in on a huge, perfect wall on too small of a board kinda stuck in the lip at this spot.

tijn have you ever heared of a channel? makes paddling much easyer. or if you look in the background there is land behind the wave, so its possible that they can get in past the peak, avoiding a paddle out. hope this helps.

wow, this is a very good photo, but one question, isn't very hard to go outside with such a long board as yours? i have a 7.2 and i hate to paddle outside with high waves
