man, im so tired of this shit going on here, i come here to appreciate the art of surf-photo-shooting as a fellow surfer. You know, i love waves, and if there's a class wave and somebody going for it, man, that's great, i'm so glad all those gems are not just going thru unridden. I dont care if it is a top surfer or a kook or a sponger, whatever you call them, but hey, thing is, we should be happy for them, just to know that they know the feeling that we as surfers love, it's a good thing, just like peace with us all. screw up all types of differences. We all have different likes but each to their own, we have one thing in common, and should make that our only bond, we all love the ocean and that's the only reason why we come to this site, or at least the only reason why we should.... peace bruddahs !!!

im with goofster, who cares if youre out there sponging or surfing stoke is the same when that curtain falls. Yall are so agro and would get F'd if you ever brought that to hawaii or the S. Pac. Unless one of these guys wrecked your stick, give it up there are plenty of waves out there. The Irish seem to be some of the only few who get that, be happy with what you got. Surfing and sponging are very selfish sports get used to it.

NMDcharger is a great reason to hate spongers. He's obviously just a little child and there are always little assholes on sponges like him. Same goes for stand ups though. As there are so many people that now claim to surf, the number of wankers has increased as well. I'm a sponger, but there's no way I want to be part of a facebook group of pricks. Screw facebook anyway

You people are just ignorant. Who cares if someone body boards or surfs. Just have fun doing what you're doing and what else matters what people think of you? If you love the waves so much, let it go and just catch the next one. No reason anyone can't enjoy them cause of what they ride (cept for shallow breaks ... and bodysurfing. That just doesn't mix)

nmdcharger, your right, it does take years to get good at surfing. All of that crap you mentioned doing on a sponge, yeah I was doing that at age 10 before I learned to surf. I could get barreled out of my mind on a sponge as a tiny little grommet....little actual skill involved, airs are easy, hitting the lip and flipping on a sponge is easier than standing up any day. Perhaps you should try surfing, then you may realize how backwards your view is. After all I've done both for years.

how can u claim bodyboarding is more fun and looks better? and how can u classify all bodyboarders as better than standups? U can do different things with different equipment. It's like saying snowboarding is better than skiing, but skiing u can take a steeper slope and much better overcome moguls but the experience of both is both great but different.

Stand ups just get pissed cos they have spent years learning to stand up then someone comes along on a bodyboard,takes off late,gets barreled,hits the lip and busts an ars,lands back in the barrel then fucks off to catch the next one. I know it must be hard to take people but lets face it WE HAVE MORE FUN AND LOOK BETTER WHILST DOING IT! HA HA HA

Whats your deal jerseysponge? I like doing both, but its obvious that standing up is much more crucial. Take this wave for instance, the mini-vertical drop and throwing lip would be rather difficult to manage on a surf board, you'd have to take-off at the right spot, properly balance a bottom turn (or pull in immediately) to get in the right position. On a sponge, you basically just need to make sure you catch the wave (easy with flippers) and occasionally tilt your body weight (like this guy) to stay in the tube. It takes sooooo much more skill to get tubed standing up -after all, when you're lying down its always overhead.
