Look for the next photo i posted where the wave has brocken on the whales back and see if that ones fake to.
Ratbag Nov 14, 2008 Rating: 9
It's not fake! I've had the same experience with whales surfing near Byron Bay in Australia. Awe inspiring! And, dolphins? They scare the hell out of ya when they jump out of the face right in front of you. They are also a little off putting when they scream past underneath you. "What the fark was that?"
fhflipper Nov 13, 2008 Rating: 2
Azza: If you dont recognise those as dolphins you really need to do a bit more travelling...
*azza* Nov 13, 2008 Rating: 1
good pic, i think its real becuase if you look every one is looking at the whale so it would be to much of a coinsidence, and about the fins who ever said that its a dolphin behind it.
soutie Nov 13, 2008 Rating: -1
to follow that logic, I have never seen that therefore it is not real.
pearler Nov 13, 2008 Rating: -2
Surfing in the Hebrides couple of years ago and an orca/killer whale surfaced behind me. 2 lads from Edinburgh saw it (I didn't) but they shouted me to get out. I did- heard what they saw and stayed out!! Killer whales aren't as big as that though but KILLER whale.....?

That light a fag statement has a completely different meaning here in the states. But I think it makes sense either way.
his minge smells of pasty Nov 12, 2008 Rating: 1
the whales name is 'jerry' and he lives near fishguard.the mayor of fishguard Mr kenny twat told me.i dont know what the dolphins are doing in the shot but the one on the far left looks as though he's about to light a fag because he's just had a bum in the shitters.....tidy.
MSpeed Nov 12, 2008 Rating: 2
If you had to swim 12,000 miles in the sea you'd probably want to stop for a surf too. Can't say I blame him!
Binger Photo Nov 12, 2008 Rating: 1
This reminds me of the time I was shooting my buddy, and a whale was surfacing about 20 feet behind him. Mind you this is New Jersey...
hpallaviccini Nov 12, 2008 Rating: -1
All you need in here is a great white and you would have a great battle till death.
Mike McCarthy Nov 12, 2008 Rating: 2
Sorry about the misled location but its the only way to get a photo on the front page.Just sent another taken seconds later.
Mike McCarthy Nov 12, 2008 Rating: -1
I took this photo in july this year at Keurbooms Beach just outside Plettenberg Bay South Africa. Guest what, that is a real Southern Right whale and those are Bottlenose dolphins amongst the surfers. This is a common and can happen a couple of times a day in winter.
Didier Nov 11, 2008 Rating: 2
Wetcoast, you cant see much undernearth because of the angle of the photog, if you notice that dolphin on the right that coming more straight on in that lovely bit of surf is completely visible. if the camera was higher and lookin straight down it would be more visible.
sqirl Nov 11, 2008 Rating: 0
Believe wetcoast! Believe! Somewhere there is a hippie crying because you wont believe DAMMIT!
Shorey Nov 11, 2008 Rating: 3
Defintely not fake. Wetcoast would you prefer rather that all the fins were perfectly placed while the dolphins do synchro around the whale.
Shorey Nov 11, 2008 Rating: 0
Would you prefer it rather if the fins were all equidistant while the dolphins to synchro around the whale. Obviously the fins will be all over the place.
sqirl Nov 11, 2008 Rating: -2
It is real if you believe it is real lets all just believe on this one OK.
wetcoast Nov 11, 2008 Rating: -1
The dolphin surfing in the far right of the photo looks real, however the whale seems out of place, when we see them that close in our darker waters they still leave a large visible shadow at there bodies perimeter, and since this bright blue warm, Green Isle water is so clear you would think a more menacing shadow would be exposed, and with all the rest of the fins, they look randomly placed. it is still believable and pleasing to look at. If it is real then where is Mad Murdock and why isn't he landing a chopper on that whale.
sqirl Nov 11, 2008 Rating: 2
The A-Team rules. They better get a stronger sedative and a bigger plane. How big would the gold chains have to be to get around B.A.'s neck. Do whales even have necks?
harveywallbanger Nov 11, 2008 Rating: 1
ok wetcoast, now that youve revealed your age to be around 14 or so with that answer I now bow out and refuse you the pleasure of my debate because quoting some crap you just got off the internet and then trying to back it up with an unneccessary bad word, (naughty), is just bad form. Especially once you then turn round and invalidate your whole argument by saying its not fake... tut tut, conviction, its what todays kids lack and ive been saying it for years...
fhflipper Nov 11, 2008 Rating: -3
lol - my bet is the dolphins are feeding on all the small fish trying to use the whale for protection... or they really are the A-team and they are trying to get MrT (the whale) onto a plane...

fhflipper- er, I was joking..... and I know Polar bears are only found around the North Pole, bejesus. I've also encountered surfing penguins AND Right Whales ( but not together :) but behind the lineup AND never accompanied by a shed load of Dolphins. I call fake!
fhflipper Nov 11, 2008 Rating: 0
39: You laugh, but i have regularly surfed with the odd pengiun and unfortunately even a great white or two (although it tends be just one wave straight back to shore once you know it there) - but i think the canadian has more chance of surfing with a polar bear (being found only in the north pole and all). What the hell am i still doing in London...????? This makes me sooo homesick !!!
wetcoast Nov 11, 2008 Rating: 6
harveywallbanger1 , we get Grey whales, humpbacks, orcas, dalls porpoise, harbour porpoise, sperm whales, white sided dolphins, northern rights, fin whales, minke whales,Blue whales stellar sealions, cali sealions, harbour seals and a fuck load of old growth forest, and eagles fishing around us often many of the creatures will be with us at the same time, eat a dick the, the pic looks fake.
tommo Nov 10, 2008 Rating: 3
one of my local waves is actually in a whale nursery from june-september and this situation is quite common. The dolphins are more rare though.
39 Nov 10, 2008 Rating: 2
Where's the Polar bear, Penguin and Great White? They were all there that day. At least a justification might make it more beleivable.
sqirl Nov 10, 2008 Rating: 0
To El rey...: Now that is a whale of a tale....or is it the tail of the whale...either way I suppose.
El Rey de las Olasl Nov 10, 2008 Rating: 1
id take off when the wave crests on the whales back, get slotted, then do a slob air right in all you surfers faces!
joel-sessions Nov 10, 2008 Rating: 4
5 dolphins and a whale! that's well strange! looks pretty close to the shore! maybe the whale is beached and the dolphins are in there like the A-Team helping it out! or they've all just rocked up to show those surfers how it's done! :]
harveywallbanger Nov 10, 2008 Rating: 29
wetcoast, name says it all... just because where you come from in waist high deep water you cant see/feel your feet, doesnt mean this sort of stuff doesnt happen... rickety, check yourself before ya wet yourself..
fhflipper Nov 10, 2008 Rating: 8
Thats a southern right whale... this is most likely cape town or somewhere reletively nearby. Hermanus or False Bay are the best places to see/surf with these whales and this time of year is the right time as they come really close for mating etc. Its not often you see dolphins and a whale so close to surfers at the same time. This is a very cool pic.
burnsie Nov 10, 2008 Rating: 3
Believe me : if it was Ireland in November there would be hoods and boots on the surfers and no blue skies!
archie69 Nov 10, 2008 Rating: -2
who's the doos that thinks this is photoshopped. great shot but wouldnt get to close to that whale. will be back in SA over december so hope to get a glims of a few whales ( not the beached type) and seeing that ill be in j-bay maybe get a session with some dolphins.
George Karbus Nov 9, 2008 Rating: 1
It is not Ireland. Whales never come so close to beach here. I think its South Africa. The caption is wrong
dr.F Nov 8, 2008 Rating: 0
I love surfing with dolphins in the water but a whale ... that could be a little much. I bet that wave breaks on its back
reef rat Nov 8, 2008 Rating: 3
if you positioned it in the right spot you could make the wave break better
