Here's a little travelling letter: I surfed Nias for a week with a friend in early July 2001, and except for one day which had 2 1/2 meter faces, the waves were constantly between 3 and 4 metres on the face from the minute we came to the minute we left. Every wave was perfect. A truly beautiful, and very powerful wave. I snapped my leash and I've never got so pounded anytime during my 15 years of surfing. We went through hell getting from Medan to Lagundri, I thought I was gonna die at least six times during the drive. After the terrible overnight boattrip (from a shithole of a town called Sibolga, where at first, we were sent to the wrong boat, and were ripped off) to the eastside of Nias, the drive to Lagundri was only 60 kilometres, but took 5 1/2 hours(!), and the driver had to stop and build parts of the road at three places, he-he (We could have taken a plane, which looked like a wreck, but we heard rumours that it had fallen down a couple of times)... Well, after all, I have it all on film, and I wouldn't be without this experience. I have to say it was worth it! Lagundri is a great, relaxing place with one of the best waves in the world. After a week in a simple bungalow with incredible views over the point, three meals a day, AND laundry, we payed a little over 100 $, ALLTOGETHER!!! And the natives we met there were mellow and friendly (considering they were cannibals 120 years ago...). Have a safe trip! Futro☺
