Foo's death was likely due to a combination of freak circumstances anyways. His leash is rumored or believed (whichever you want to give credence to)to have gotten caught in some rocky crags in the white water section of the break. A surfer on the very next wave wiped out and recalled hitting something in the water while being tossed about where he wouldn't have suspected the bottom to be. That "thing" was very likely Foo caught by his leash and unable due to the force of incoming sets to free his leg. In any event it sucks that such a great surfer died no matter how it happened but then again, Foo probably wouldn't have had it any other way.

it wasn't foo's match! it was a fitting place to go, but the dosn't mean it was too tough for him! he was too tired to ride 30-40-50ft faces! he died in the place he loved, the ocean, with the waves. if anything, any ocean any break, would have been fitting for foo as long as he was in the ocean! 'if you want the ultimate thrill, you must be willing to pay the ultimate price' MARK FOO.
