I am a professional photographer! All this criticism is definitely justified. Every aspiring photographer (Scullion included) should take a look at my photos in order to see what class pics look like. I am quite possibly the best, just ask Binger.

I get annoyed with the guy who tries to sell man made fossils in Morocco.....the guy drops the things in your frickin car or your lap and makes out its a sale and won't take it back.... weakly, I ended up buying one, then, in Sri Lanka I met someone wearing the exact same one round his neck who had been in the same place....spanked!

Putting comments up on photos should not be compared to what we might be able to put up individually. I sometimes surf good and sometimes crap, but never have anyone taking photos of me. My wife is tolerant of the time I spend surfing but not that much and I am to old to try to prove anything. Its just subjective chit chat about the people who do have the time and ambition to put stuff up.

i say everyone needs to use their time in a more constructive way. instead of being online criticizing other's photography, which by the way i think is a good one, go in the water and work on your turns so YOU can be IN the photo. not dreaming about them and taking away from the photo and all the effort that went behind it. everyone needs to enjoy things a bit more in this world instead of just saying how something can improve.

Cheers Papa, the reason why there are so many pics of andrew is because hes been helping me out with getting water shots as ive only been shooting in the water since september. I dont put my best shots on magic seaweed, not that they are world class though. The ones ive put up do get positive feedback which is always good and they obviously get negative comments too, just wish the negative ones were a bit more constructive. cheers mate. Moroccolocal, this is only one of over a thousand shots i took in morocco, i got some shots of the landscape and of the people which im really happy with and we still scored some awesome waves so it was a well worthwhile trip. 'tis a great place. cheers

I have to agree to some extent that the Mennie-Scullion series can be a bit gratuitous but I reckon this guy can surf well and is rightly being put 'out there' but to both of you guys benefit, I would be a bit more selective over the ones you choose to put up. However, in the context of this discussion, I say this one passes. Nice speed and grind for such a small wave.

if I may make a suggestion to all the photographers that are so important to this site (obviously you dont have to listen, my wife dosent even listen to me), if the waves aren't that great, consider a panoramic shot of the destination that captures the coast and the feel of the place (like morocco). so we viewing the picture may dream of far off exotic locations(away from our wifes and mortgages for a short time). I am not a photographer and appreciate the art.

Hi Mantis, thanks for the lesson in the credit card air thing, never heard that expression before. However, Andrew doesnt need to use this technique and yeah the wave isnt all that great, it went flat that day and this was the only place to get waves.

It's not just the photography that is always great, it's also capturing the present athleticism. Note the ass sag and suit stretch, bro is applying some major brakes on this turn. Bravo.

mantis's avatar

mantis Jan 3, 2009 Rating: -1

we refer to this sometimes as a credit card air down unda as noted by another aussie which for some reason was removed. parko addressed this issue recently while at j bay. he said it is one place that flailing your arms around to make a manuver seem more radical dosent work. or words to that effect. furthermore, it simply looks like the dude has kicked his board out on a shitty little wave. not worthy of highlight photos. but of course do keep sending in your pic stephen i say respectfully. that is what this site is about. i just think the review board can do better for highlight shots.

coming from the guy who thinks he can criticise sharpy about his photography skills. i dont think my shots are anything special but i enjoy surf photography and most of the feedback i get is positive so just think what your comment means to me. get a life mate and while your at it try taking some decent surf photos yourself as you dont seem to have any
