That wave is totally unreal. I have no doubt, however, that the photo is authentic.

Im a little suspicious of this pic. dont mean to be the naysayer
mantis Jul 20, 2009 Rating: 1
hi edmate. I appreciate the heads up. I do take your word for it and bens. do you have any follow up shots to go with this wave? does he pull in and come out dry?
edmate Jul 19, 2009 Rating: 0
No worries but it really is real! In the channel is Mickey Smith shooting for the film powers of three, shooting on land with me was Kiwi Arran aka liquid-storm. Ive got a whole batch of the session on my flickr. This is either Tom Lowe or Fergal Smith charging it along with Stef Skaj and Tom Gillespie. Also I wouldnt have the foggiest of how to do this in photoshop, think its easier to get over to Ireland and wait for the bombs to come through!

thanks ben. I would like to see that video. I will stand corrected I am sure now
mantis Jul 18, 2009 Rating: -1
guys guys. Take it easy. I am not saying there are no waves this size in Ireland. It is something else. The perspective between the guys on the shoulder compared with the wave at this point to the guy in the tube. the guy in the tube must be a miget. second, waves this size (look at the impact zone) create thick foam. check any big wave shot or video and you will see very thick foam layer on the top. you can see through the foam to the blu. thin layer. however i have an open mind and I am not saying this is how it is, I am just saying something dont look right. peace be with you brothers

Don't be suspicious Mantis ... i reckon thats Paul Morgan arm up saluting and representing for the Aussies ! Good on ya Irish chargers ! CRAZY BASTARDS !
bazza Jul 17, 2009 Rating: 5
Your suspicion is not unfounded. This photo is actually a carving made from wood by a bushman in the Kalahari desert. Ireland doesn't even have a coastline, let alone waves and surfers!

Love these photos,Edmate. I'll be there in 24 hours. And if it's anything like that I'm going to be raising a glass to anyone out there. From the nearest bar, of course.

nouettes Jul 18, 2009 Rating: 1
With respect, it cant be heavier. Waves in Tahiti are coming out of a lot deeper water, from further away with a longer interval
