I think this date is off or it wasn't Bill. Most of what I saw of Bill near here looked cleaner and more organized. Don't see any of that 15 second + period here. For the record the cape gets some really good and well organized waves in the winter and some clean small days in the summer. Also a good bit of this kinda shit but I would see it as less death defying and more a pain in the ass to paddle a long board through. Nice to see people posting about Mass.

I was at at a National Seashore Beach at 8AM on Sunday and it looked similar to this. As it is a picture from the side the waves seem more numerous. The Cape wasn't ride-able in the morning after Bill

Classic example of Fetch: Wind distance over water... Hurricane Bill heaving sand bar A frame sideshore slop. This Kook is slab happy. Aint gunna be crosstepping that log today. This bloke should go home and grab a suitable shred stick. I recommend a 6'10 pintail with thick rails and plenty of rocker. I doubt a mini mal could cut through that chop! Looks like it is onshore! Good luck paddling out Bro... Can't ignore that undertow...SOUL SURFING AT ITS FINEST!

Have not heard any of your inane, multi faceted surf ramblings for a long time stale fish.....when did they let you out?

Papa Chambo's avatar

Papa Chambo Sep 7, 2009 Rating: 2

The fact he made it out of the car after watching it for an hour, pulled his wettie on and made it to the waters edge would indicate to me that he's at least gonna take the next step and give it a go....

You guys must all live in places with consistently good surf. I've paddled out in worse than that more times than I could tell you. I mean, that doesn't look great, but it's certainly surfable.

phatmanwc's avatar

phatmanwc Sep 8, 2009 Rating: 1

Completely. That's a pretty standard wintertime surf for me. Tough work for sure, but definitely surfable, and not as bad as everyone is suggesting.

Better to take a smaller board out in theses conditions. Would be a bit of a mission to duckdive that plank. I dont believe he paddled out.

I'd paddle out, even if I had to turn back. I'd just have to. Looks like somebody is already outside anyway. Maybe the outside surfer has the car keys. Date is wrong for Hurricane Bill. Great photo!

the backline looks possibly surfable, or a play in the shorebreak on the right, seems quite steep. either way, wouldnt be taking out the mothership.

then, in a bizaar turn of events, at 35 year old surfer who had gone missing of the coast on MA, presumed dead, was found alive and well on a beach on the west coast of Ireland today. When interviewed in hospital, he said that the conditions at the time "didn't seem that bad"
