At the risk of sounding slightly controversial, I dunno what you lot are on about. I've seen the pics of the apartments to be built there and it looks ok to me. What would you rather they build there, grass roofed shacks? The Balinese also have a right to a bite of the tourist apple, and as long as they don't pump raw sewage into the water there, I don't see the problem. As soon as anyone wants to build something near any surf spot, surfers everywhere cry out for mercy. How selfish s that? Get with the real world folks, population increases and tourism means beautiful places are going to be prone to encroachment. If anything, strike a happy medium. No reason not to share.

the challenge awaits, as do extremely wealthy russian types who don't really care much about your physical well-being. grassroots activism can be effective in places that don't suffer from endemic corruption. sadly, bali/indo ain't one of those places :(.

Yeah, big "condotel"-type developments right on the beach/cliffs suck! Perhaps Surfrider Foundation or a similar ocean environment protection group may be able to influence the proper authorities to stem this impending disaster. Or maybe some super-high net worth individual or surfing apparel/ surfing products/ surfing publication giant might altruistically purchase the subject property and dedicate it as a "World Heritage Conservation Area" (Unlikely, but one can hope). Perhaps you can spearhead a group that will via internet, TV, Radio, newspaper, magazines, politicians, etc... quickly act to halt this colossal coastal catastrophe. I've done it locally and helped save thousands of acres of land from development. So if you're up to it, the challenge awaits you.

Pack a good supply of Mercurochrome as it works wonders on reef rash.
