Ireland - It's cold, wet and expensive. The crowds are mostly Irish(If you call them crowds). The industry is driving the Irish youth into a surf frenzie! Still...The waves are perfect. MSW are not naming every break, there's waves that go un-surfed all the time. If anyone travels to Ireland, pay the locals huge respect and they will respect you. My experience is to leave the scratchie attitude at home. The Irish take time, allow a line up to work out and are generally up for everyone having a good time. Try and compete and they will step up to the challenge often with poor experiences for all. If you do enjoy a good scratchie surf - go somewhere warmer!

No reason for bad vibes so long as visitors respect the locals. Same principle worldwide, no special rules for Ireland.

R.I.P Brandon Bollix Jul 22, 2010 Rating: 6

Your a nob head and obviously a summer swell surfer ...... it only smells there in summer and its a good ol natural seaweed smell, not in the winter when it pumps, but do stay away cus you wouldn't be able to handle it in the winter. ASnd I don't want to be pulling you out of there in a panic

I don't know where this wave is, I don't even care or have the slightest interest in looking at the name above the picture, all I do know is I miss winter and all it's lovely wholesome goodness and this picture just makes me even more home sick for it.

theres nothing that makes you feel more siqnificant than sitting in the sea on your board in harsh conditions while the rest of the world around you is sitting at home trying to avoid the weather. more fool them

Carcharias Jul 21, 2010 Rating: 2

With you Tex, the British winter - don’t have to get up too early, the crowds from the middle bit have gone home, and if you can sneak a weekday session you don’t even have to mix with the second home owners from London. Happy days.

Welcome to the "I want it now, with as little effort as possible" generation. The more spots that are mentioned, it is likely that MSW will atract more people checking the individual spots so that they can save their precious time and not have to search for anything. This results in more hits onto the site, resulting in more revenue from advertising. MSW team, have you really soled your soul to the advertising and marketing world?

gtrain's avatar

gtrain Jul 20, 2010 Rating: 0

Wave looks like it breaks only on a blue moon. Looking at the surrounding conditions, theres more chance of me getting f#%&ed by a seal than surfing this blizzard spot. I would'nt worry too much about the secrecy anyway you either got to be smoking something or desperate too paddle out in those conditions. By the way the first person to respond to my comment wins a sny reply.

This is a class shot of a wave I've never seen breaking anywhere near this good, unfortunately I would now be tempted to check it out more often for the simple reason I know exactly where it is. For that reason MSW you should consider not naming individual reefs and leave it as general areas such as Brandon or Lahinch and let the masses work it out for themselves, that way on the rare days these spots have their moments of greatness the guys who have put in the time sussing it out can have some uncrowded time to enjoy the fruits of their labour. Not naming sensative surf spots seems to be going out of the window, once you start where do you draw the line, every surf spot has it's sensative side.

Im pretty sure the only reason they put all these spots on the list is cuz they are all in the Storm rider guide... Which is fair enough, as far as MSW are concerned they are all well known cuz they are in a book, But they actually aren't... Most people don't have that guide and now when Newbies look at MSW they see all these new spots, go looking for them and end up in a line up with experts and waves they cant handle... One report per bay(main bay in the area) is all that's needed...

Anyway thats not a covering of frosted lucky charms covering the grounds you know, its called snow, frozen water, its not really a secret spot it was just too cold for anyone to bother with till souless wetsuit companies started making better products. Theres no souls in surfing, unless you get a nice med session with happy spanish folks like i did last years, in awe of my lame roundhouse wrap arounds and roller coasters.

Get a life, why spend time looking at maps and charts when you can just go to this sight and many others and make life easy for oneself. Anyway surfer or all sychofants so surfing a spot alone has no appeal as no one can see your lane round house wrap around or roller coaster....see

dave jones's avatar

dave jones Jul 19, 2010 Rating: 3

yeah so much for not naming the so called sensative spots with the exception to the obvious msw should only have the indicator breaks listed its taking the fn of tracking down x spots its getting too easy newbies should learn the hard way like most of my genration which meant road trips to the unknown and sacrifice and not even your mates would give you directions there is too much internet related info its taking the soul out of surfing with a lot of moans about inacuracy with the surf not living up to the net surfers expectations whats wrong with learning to read the synoptic charts on sunday and just go and surf whatever the conditions during the week.

I know Iguess its inevitable that they will name all soon, and they're still empty compared to alot of places in the world..... And your right not many brave gary or this and if they do its funny cus they seee the wave and paddel out on their long boards and end up eating reef. Might see you in water there in future....... C'mon september!!!!! ( warm still and good swells )

Very true man,I do love this place, its my second home and it lights up my soul when I see Brandon every time.I have so many photos of loads of spots that I dont put up, I try to be fair to other surfers as dave jones said, do the work and sacrifice the good days to find other spots and dont rely on the net, but this spot is known and it is a hard spot to surf as is garywilliams and not many surfers have the balls to go near them. and thankfully there are a few spots close by they haven't mentioned.

He's here burger king...... I actually corrected myself deleted one and it took all my comments away. I live here fella and was just saying why would they put mossies and the point up on here, Dusty tells me they have done it for all the reef at lehinch too. Maybe next time you load a photo of pumping mossies to just put it under Brandon Bay and let them at least try and find it. If it was flat it would be hard to find but now its under mossies anyone round here knows where it is and would happily point them in the direction cus its named after Mossie who lives in the house in summer. Or better still don't post it at all and share it with your mates......
