Lest we forget...http://magicseaweed.com/photoLab/viewPhoto.php?photoId=113409...Apparently...all of Shorey's 'expertise' was lost to us forever back then...due to some silly profile banning situation he got into a bit later...I HAD forgotten somehow that there was a tuna & shark 'expert' in that thread as well...I would NEVER use bait that the Japanese will pay so much for...just to catch sharks though.

Coelacanth Sep 27, 2011 Rating: 0

That tweaking of Shorey's 'expertise' on dolphins you did so well and so enjoyably...so long ago...(baboons and such...I remember!)made you the 'expert' on this subject as far as I'm concerned. Something tells me you've watched a lot of children's stuff on TV too...as part of your parental duties of course... ;^)

i made up that eyelash stuff for a laugh serveral dolphin photos ago (could it have been the dolphin friendly tuna sandwich in a plastic bag one?), but have i intuitively struck gold with a radical new more accurate way of defining a mammal that has eluded the boffins for years. it wont be the first time.

.....whatta i look like to you ehh?? ...the f@ckin Research Institute for the Molestation of Dolphins (RIMD) or something!?? ....if it bites him then its a shark!...sorry but thats all i got

Coelacanth's avatar

Coelacanth Sep 26, 2011 Rating: 1

If it proceeds to molest Joggly instead...does that make it...a porpoise?...I'm confused...

sqirl's avatar

sqirl Sep 26, 2011 Rating: 1

there's only one way to settle this......put the suspiciously smiling mystery beast pictured above in a tank with joggly.......if joggly proceeds to molest the mystery beast....then it is definitely a dolphin!

I guess next to eyelashes...milk secretion by the females is a pretty important mammalian distinguishing feature...even for dolphins. I'm assuming the Japanese don't consume THAT too. =^0. I just discovered a day ago that flying fish eggs are amongst the many, many 'delicacies' they harvest(somehow)from 'the sea'. Given the price($526/lb)they paid for a large(754 lb), whole bluefin tuna at auction in Japan recently(Jan, 2011)... = $396,000.00 for one tuna...nothing they do or consume surprises me anymore. Male tuna 'milt' secretion anyone?

yeah but Tuna don't have eyelashes, so not mammals

Some fish, like tuna, are warm-blooded.

Damn, knew I'd forgotten something.., flippin' eyelashes get me every time... Mammal: a warm-blooded vertebrate animal of a class that is distinguished by the possession of hair, fur and eyelashes, the secretion of milk by females for the nourishment of the young, and (typically) the birth of live young. The first small mammals evolved from reptiles about 200 million years ago, and the group diversified rapidly after the extinction of the dinosaurs to become the dominant form of land animal (in main due to their eyelashes developing more quickly than competing groups), with about 4,000 living species. Mammals belong to the class Mammalia, which contains the subclass Prototheria (monotremes) and the infraclasses Metatheria (marsupials) and Eutheria (placental mammals such as rodents, cats, whales, bats, and humans).

dolphins, porpoises, whales, orcas.., all mammalian, if it's got a blowhole, it's got lungs, lungs = mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and small bouncy things.., but not fish (including blowfish)
