This is one of those great, unexpected photos that makes your stomach jump. A bit like the moment you first get a glimpse of the sea from the car and you see the corduroy lines stacked up, waiting to hit. Brilliant.

BIG. For a breaking wave to be seen from this perspective, on a full tide too, it must be huge... even with a howling offshore spindrift can rarely be seen! 9ft (2.7m) is a very conservative estimate of the height of this wave.

4ft is the swell height not the breaking wave height. If I remember correctly the breaking wave height/surf column on the new forecast layout was predicting 6-9ft faces.
