Hey Gustav, how u doing, im glad to see that u keeping up our Family Name, its Dieter Lokotsch, i started that many years ago. That surfer in the photo looks more like Duncan Scott, iv surfed with him a few times here in the UK, its looks more like his style. I remember Surfing the Bay on big days with my Brother, just making it in at Bell Buoy Summerstrand, catching a few winding rights, just in front of Lifesaving Club, but landing up at Mullers. Myself & a few others were the first to surf at the new pier on big days after it was built. I dont remember the last time i saw u, but we should get together for some waves, im on my way to PE from the UK now, contact me on 0828370867. Tell Duncan that he missed classic "Staithes - The Cove" a week ago here in the North East of England.

Hey clive, I really appreciate your comment and it is nice to share the stoke with people that really understand. Yeah it was a mega ride hey and was super stoked after that day. Also to have footage of it makes it even better. Like you say we only live once and must make the best of it bro.i have scouted some narly spots outside the bay that i will yet surf. All i need is a 9.8ft RHINO CHARGER - yet to be purchased as im an article clerk dnt earn much, a north wind and some swell oh. I am seriously keen to paddle in as this is the most pure form of big wave surfing and think you get a real persective about shit when you paddle in into a 20ft er. I have spent alot of my youth surfing beachview and maitland - i have made my peace with sharks and that side has taught me a few lessons about respecting the ocean. Enough said all that is left is to do... I still believe the day we towed maitland was much bigger and whey more hairy - if people are calling the day in the bay 10ft I wonder what they would of called the size of the sets comming through at maitland that day. I remember my friend Kyle had a two wave hold down and if i could explain how he was after you would understand - still it wasnt xxxxl like big wave in Cape Town but still a very decent size beach break.

Amazing wave and ride that. Gustav were you towed out from Hobie? Man you must have been stoked that day or what? Your other comment refers; Ja many people do "give a shit" as we only live once on this earth (at least as far as one can remember!) and to see someone doing something like riding those waves is unreal, crazy and perhaps even a heroic celebration of life that we can all share in a lesser way. That's why this web site is so popular. So you're doing what we wished we could do and having a name and persona to the picture makes it a reality we can appreciate. Keep it up. Stephen where can one see the photos of Bell Buoy blowing out? Did any one ride it?

Guy found a board at siding street, oppostite side of the bay might be yours. One of the factory owners wrote in to the herald saying he had found a surf board, wanted to know how the heck it got there. Look at luc hostens website saw some pics there. Think Eitenne Potgieter(how ever you spell his name) and Dylan Stone paddled out there and caught some bombs. Horrible, horrible paddle

I am pretty sure this is me by the look of the style. The only people towing in that day was Duncan Scott (sponsored Big wave surfer for O niel) Marc Jucker (Previous SA body boarding champion now big wave charger) and myself. Duncan only had a few then lost his tow in board so if anyone finds it, it has his number on the back of it so pleaser return it. Who ever took this pic please conatct me at 0833996700 as i would like to get the footage from ya. Pretty sure this is me... quite a large one for PE.. what say you..

Pity about the rip the bay gets when its huge. Realy necessary to have a ski. Think this guy was towed in. More photos on Luc Hosten website

This is the biggest Iv'e ever seen it, thats the once every who knows when swell I was talkin about, it normally comes late August early September every like I don't know when. Mother Nature needs to be repected and this pic shows just how much.....I mean how big is that?

This is one of the cleanest breaking waves around and can take size as this pic shows. It is challenging as it is deceptively fast and I've often seen surfers do a cutback only to be caught by the next fast pealing section. Wish I could've been there to see this. Too big for me though. I'm told some guy tried to paddle out and was just swept along in the longshore current and eventually caught a wave at Millers and into Hobie Beach 2km down the bay. Great surfing and picture!
