We spent a year in Australia and absolutely loved it: the surf, the landscapes, the space, the cosmopolitan cities, the diversity of people, the wildlife, the lifestyle and particularly the sydney coastline. A great place to visit. However the 'typical' Australian attitude to sportsmanship can be summed up by one experience me and the wife (then girlfriend) had in a restaurant in Randwick one night. Whilst we were enjoying our evening meal a fella on a neighbouring table must have picked up on the fact we were English because when I went to the toilet he got out of his seat and by the time I got back he was stood over my wife pointing his finger in her face and loudly berating her about how poor he thought the English cricket team were with plenty of expletives. My wife truly could not care less about any kind of sport - let alone cricket and at that time I didn't even care about cricket (I do have a passing interest now - ironically since my time in Oz where its often on telly). Thiss kind of over zealous and uninvited attack was commonplace in our time there. I don't know why the yank has had to post a comment on here though - it's not like them to get involved in other countries disputes.
