i think what's interesting is to think that if Gerry Lopez had been pioneering stylish dropins at Lahinch for all of those years he spent at Pipe then the wave would still probably be relatively quiet compared to Hawaii thanks to the rawness of the whole deal, & it's thanks 2 timing & climate that pipe stands head & shoulders above other waves in the general mentality of the surf world. The Pipeline is effectively the Beatles of the surf world; an incredible freak of nature that was born in a unique time & can never be born or effectively 'beaten' again...

i was out at one of the spots shown in this clip with Tom and can defo say it was harder than Tom made it look! What a session he scored that day tho, got all the best waves!

if the north east UK got 15-20 second interval swell there's three or four places i think would end up looking like this! meanwhile, back to insane jealousy.

yep, i've got this on video as well, that's Volcom rider Kilian Garland. Good little session on the Thursday morning when the comp was on hold. Cornish ripper Harry De Roth was in the water at the same time.
