'Pondering pointilism' @ 0:53. It's a shame the Foremen's entire album isn't on YouTube. This wasn't a bad slideshow...but I can't believe there isn't video of them in concert somewhere available to post on YouTube. I wanna see & hear 'My Conservative Girlfriend' in it's entirety...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pS5LWS5m5h4

Just remembered...I may have the 'Folk Heroes' album on a dusty old cassette tape somewhere...Yippeee!

I looked at some of the clips. Good stuff. I was only thinking of the art movement called Pointillism when making my comment (e.g., Georges Seurat, whose painting, 'Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte', was exactly what I was thinking of). Your knowledge of the audio and visual arts has given you associations way beyond anything I would ever have come up with. I am humbled.

Huh?...No way Jose!...I like the early Impressionist painters...especially Van Gogh...but I couldn't have named a Pointilist painter or piece of art like you just did...even if I was undergoing 'enhanced interrogation!'...I just knew what pointilism was...and am desperate for intelligent humor, creativity and entertainment...which you often provide. There aren't a whole lot on MSW like that anymore. Some of the older pic threads had banter that seems much richer in content than more recent stuff. I get a little carried away on YouTube sometimes and save a lot of comedy & music & other stuff for possible use later. And it helps with my curiosity seeking & Googling to have some 'usual suspects' weeders to trade opinions and banter with...especially once you've learned what some of their buttons are, heh heh heh!...You must know as well as anyone...being the university lecturer/teacher that you are...with who knows how many advanced degrees!...how reading lots of good books...and seeing good art works and hearing good music...increases all those neural connections. The word 'pointilism' just flashed me back to those strange 1990s Clinton years...when it seemed easier to laugh at conservatives & religious nuts...convinced that no matter what foibles Clinton had, especially after the Federal government got shut down in a budget fight and conservatives(& Gingrich)got blamed for it...no American majority of voters in their right minds would EVER go backwards to the 1980s. The Foremen Folk Heroes album was a funny, scathing, Liberal/Lefty reminder of why.

Wow, what did you and the dudette do? I tried to bring all your comments back up at least to zero, but now they're back down to -2 (possibly a single individual with access to multiple computers - I'm surrounded by 3 computers at the moment, and I can vote once with each). Anyway, the two of you have evidently misbehaved - naughty naughty naughty. (Guilty until proven innocent.) ;)

Hahaha...Well, thank you for your efforts 7. There are some real loony tunes on this website from time to time. This multi-profile perp has had some of his most offensive profiles banned recently...and blames us for that, I guess. He has sunk to this obsessive, pathetic stalker level now...with his remaining profiles. He got so consistantly and heavily negged himself with his often bizarre & usually not-so-funny comments not so long ago that he has completely stopped making them...and actually deleted many of his most recent comments. Dudette can tell you even more about him than I can...with much more colorful language, haha!
Coelacanth1060 days ago -1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
I am pretty sure it's Chalky. He's changed his profile name many times now. I got the impression somewhere that he's a teacher too(maybe from his old profile pic)...at the elementary or secondary level. He sure has access to a lot of IPs, apparently...but so do many these days. Supposedly it takes one IP to start one profile...but I think there are ways around that.
Spongerdudette1060 days ago -1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Ha, yes I could do that more colourfully.....if you wanted me too. But I'll explain to you later 7. But yes that are ways and means around it! ;)
Spongerdudette1060 days ago -2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Oh btw, Chalkie can't blame us for getting his Moose profile deleted as he managed that all by himself, as I actually stuck up for Moosey/BigBarrels many a time and I got quite a bit of sh*t for that. However, his sexual comments about his ''wife'' annoyed a lot of other users on MSW judging by comments that they posted. But I believe that his final comment on the photo of a guy who got a head injury saying ''that's what his wife looks like once he has finished with her'' was too much and Ed decided that it was time for him to bite the dust......see what I done there Coelocanth ;)

Shhhhh...I'm trying to fool Stalky...er, I mean Chalky...Dohhhh, guess I've got to change my pic too...Oh, dammit. Forget it. This just isn't working out.
Spongerdudette1060 days ago -2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Hahaha...You really think that changing your name will fool Chalkie?!? hahaha. Remember he's only got to click on your user name to get onto your page Colocanth. But he would know it was your page instantly even if he didn't recognise your user name with all that text on it......men haha

The moose never bothered me that much. One of his comments was aimed at a pic I posted, but it was so goofily outrageous that I just rolled with it and suggested that he must be right to belittle the wave size (http://magicseaweed.com/photoLab/viewPhoto.php?photoId=198760 -- the biggest surf I've personally ever seen in NH (and the comment is gone, I guess when MSW deleted his account)). The moose was like a hail storm: occasionally the hail would get so big you flinched and ran indoors, but once there you had to admit that big balls of ice falling from the sky was fascinating. Of course, if it dented your car you were not happy. Anyway, mystery solved. Still, I have to believe the two of you have been naughty. It's in my head now, and I can't shake it loose.
Spongerdudette1059 days ago -2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Yeah, the comments gets deleted when the profile is 7. But me naughty?!?!?.......never ;)

Thanks for appreciating - I couldn't resist (I often try and fail, but am succeeding more frequently of late). Such a wide range of minds in the surfing world. Some pretty arcane exchanges happen on this site, and most of those leave me in the dark. "Speed pointillism" reminds me of my favorite Homer Simpson line: Homer asked during a tour of an animation studio if they did their cartoons live; the tour guide replied, no, they find that live shows are very hard on the artists' wrists.
Coelacanth1083 days ago -2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
HAHAHA...That's good too!...I'd say something disparaging about the apparent low level of humor & creativity out there...but that would be pointless...wouldn't it?
Coelacanth1082 days ago -2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Just deleted a reply I left here hours ago after I discovered many errors in what I'd 'remembered'. Your word 'pointilism' triggered this attempt at recall...and a resort to frantic, frustrating Googling when that didn't work. There was a band called "The Foremen"(Their album was called "Folk Heroes")back in the early-mid nineties that did wonderful left-of-center political satire aimed at much of the right-wing political & religious weirdness so prevalent back then. Apparently it didn't help much. But they were excellent and a lot of fun to listen to. My favorite song was 'My Conservative Girlfriend'. But another song called 'Firing The Surgeon General' was also hilarious...and made fun of Clinton's embarrassing decision to give his then recently appointed and approved Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders the heave ho after she angered conservatives for suggesting masturbation might be promoted as a healthy way to reduce teen pregnancy. That song's lyrics are full of euphemisms for masturbation...including 'pondering pointilism'. Just thought you'd get a kick out of that. I sure did back then...Here's a sample link to that album...unfortunately the entire songs are not available on YouTube...yet...http://www.amazon.com/gp/recsradio/radio/B000002N19/ref=pd_krex_listen_dp_img?ie=UTF8&refTagSuffix=dp_img...But I did find one video(Ain't No Liberal)of them to give you an example of their satirical humor...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5gBuMs6yx4...Roy Zimmerman still does their/his(?) songs solo...and is still never short of subject material to satirize today...http://scienceblogs.com/dispatches/2007/03/youtube_gems_roy_zimmerman.php

Someone went through each of your comments and gave them -1. Hmm. I re-adjusted things. That's a lot of links. Hope I remember by next weekend to watch a few. I'll be spending hours on a computer all week, and the thought of it has me feeling already burned out. Please don't delete.

Yep...seems dudette and I have acquired a mutual stalker...with multiple profiles...and a slight but warped sense of humor...and plenty of repressed hostility, determination and weirdness. His game lately is manipulating comment ratings points...using his own multiple profiles...to make himself feel clever, I guess...And to raise the scores of his usually very negatively rated comments and replies.

I was finally able to watch that link now Coelocanth, and it all fell into place. But I just wish that I would of been able to replace Mr Cruise with Johhny Depp..he's lush..oooo those dark brown eyes ;) But I've seen 7's comment several times but can't remeber which shot is was on now, and that went straight over my head as well....sorz 7 :)
Coelacanth1275 days ago -3 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
"You're a corker,..." dudette. "What a corker you are!"...That counts a lot in your favor(on a schwinging scale, haha...I just made that up...sorry), that Tom Cruise doesn't do it for you...but Johnny Depp does. Cruise sucks compared to Depp...and not just because he's a Scientologist...and I've always considered him over-rated after Risky Business. Well, there were a few he was pretty good in, I guess. Depp has the acting chops to take on anything and do it well...I never liked that whole Pirates Of The Caribbean 'franchise' thing though. Btw, those words of praise & admiration for you at the beginning of this essay/reply were from the movie "Far And Away"...starring Nicole Kidmann(as Shannon/dudette)and (drum roll...........) TOM CRUISE!....Sorry!
Spongerdudette1275 days ago -2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Oh so this is where my comment/essay went then, it was meant to be down the bottom on the thread...oh well. I thought that it might of been a quote Coelocanth, but thanks for letting me know which film it actually comes from. Tom Cruise is totally over rated, and so up himself it's unreal, and I actually don't think that he is that good an actor either. But I did like Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean, and I thought that he portrayed the role very well...he made me laugh so that's in his favour ;)
71275 days ago -1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
I have to weigh in on this. IMNSHO (NS = not so) T Cruise is a total loon, and I find it very hard watching anything he's in, and that insufferable smile of his makes me want to stuff carrots up his nose. J Depp is a totally excellent Hollywood maverick, and it's very rare I don't enjoy anything he's in (never could watch E Scissorhands, though I've tried; but Ninth Gate - excellent). Ok, back to work.
Spongerdudette1275 days ago -2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Well I think that we all agree on this one then...BOO to Cruise and HOORAY for Depp.... though I would love to award him more then that ;)
Coelacanth1275 days ago -3 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Never saw E. Scissorhands but I admire Depp for trying out so many other different, quirky characters and scripts...not the same old 'heroic' alpha-male, mass-audience appealing, over-hyped, block-buster, action-packed Hollywood formula roles typical of Tom Cruise. The last film that my all-time favorite producer/director Stanley Kubrick(Dr. Strangelove, 2001:A Space Odyssey, The Shining, etc.)made, "Eyes Wide Shut", was ruined for me when he cast Tom Cruise in it(I didn't mind looking at Nicole Kidmann, though). Kubrick's once very creative daughter is now a 'captive' of the Scientologist 'cult', a despicable turn of events that would have killed Kubrick if he wasn't already dead when it happened. I saw Depp in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" and "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"...guess you had to be in the right mood for those...But my favorite Depp movie was his Hunter S. Thompson portrayal in "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas". His Tim Burton(director), Hunter S. Thompson(gonzo journalist) associations made him just swell in my book. I'm sure he's been in a lot of other, better movies that I've not seen. I WAS shocked years ago when watching some of the pre-Oscars hoopla and heard the sweet, innocent young girl(forget her name now) who starred in that great Oscar award-winning movie "The Whale Rider"...say she was just there at the Oscars to meet Johnny Depp...adding in a low, husky, lusty voice..."He's such a hunk!"
Spongerdudette1275 days ago -2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Aaah "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory'', yep I seen that version with Johhny Depp in it. And to be honest I thought that I was going to dread every second of it because I think that the original film starring Gene Wilder was awesome and Mr Wilder portrayed the part brilliantly. However I did enjoy the new version of it, and I believe that Johhny Depp's acting made it far better, coz to me it was a little ''weird''. But I totally understand what that girl was saying coz it's his eyes, large dark brown pools that you can fall into....sigh...;)
the vanity project1274 days ago -2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Yes yes yes, everyone loves Johnny Depp blah blah blah…but in defence of the Cruisemeister: He can be pretty wooden in some films but Rainman is in my top 5 of all time fave films and as good as Dustin Hoffman was I firmly believe they gave the oscar to the wrong guy, Cruise plays that part to perfection.
71274 days ago -1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Well, it's really the only part he can play, because it's who he is: lost; manic; hyperactive; desperately seeking Scientology to take the burden of his confusion away. That's more a matter of good casting, than good acting. Actually, I'm being too harsh. The Last Samurai makes up for a lot of what I dislike about him. Ok, must recompute ... (Still, that may have been a matter of good directing = "Stop smiling, Tom! You're supposed to be hurting!")

Love getting all these different takes on movies and actors. Politics is a touchy subject these days 7...but I'll tread as lightly as I can. The once perfectly good word 'maverick' you used in describing J. Depp...is now dead to me...ever since that witch from Alaska co-opted it from John McCain...who had already kinda devalued it...imho...Here's a little comic relief I've used once already on Sqirl...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bh6A4tuJLtg&feature=related

Liking the link there Coelocanth. John McCain's face when she undone her bikini top....classic!

The real classic is the original movie "Fast Times At Ridgemont High". I just recognized a young Forest Whitaker in there for the first time watching YouTube video clips. If you've never seen it before...you should! Spicoli was Sean Penn's best role EVER. And of course...there was...Jennifer Jason Leigh(sigh)=-)

The arrogation of that word by Ms Moosehunter to appeal to the Tea Party never had much impact on me. I need the word maverick for personal reasons, but it is also the last name of one of the lead characters in one of my top 10 favorite films: Surf's Up. I do science and computers, and if you pay attention to the details, that film is a true work of art. Everything, from distant leaves on distant trees and their shadows, to the drops coming off the tops of waves, is in constant natural motion. A joy to watch - and Big Z - one of the great characters of all time. (This segues us smoothly back to safe territory: surf and art.)

Spongerdudette1268 days ago -2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Ooooh guilty as charged ;p
Coelacanth1268 days ago -3 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Haha 7...I did Google that within a day of your recommendation...and downloaded and watched Part 1(out of 8...I think). I had a prejudice against it because there are so many crappy, hyper-active, un-funny, non-sensical CGI animations these days...hyped and targeted at mass audiences & connected with product lines...plus I'm a curmudgeon. Maybe EVEN older than YOU! It was better than I expected. The CGI animation details are very impressive. I like the story-line development. I like the subtle sarcasm and wit. Did they actually get Kelly Slater & Rob Machado to do the voices of their penguin characters?...I'll watch the other 7 Parts soon and get back to you with my final assessment before very long...now that I know you're waiting, haha. Oh yeah, I had to give 'The Last Samurai' another look...and did enjoy seeing Tom Cruise's character getting beaten to a pulp by a Samurai warrior before HE became one(is that WRONG?)...That movie was based very loosely on historical events, as I learned on Wickipedia(and other sources)...but with French, German & British influences...not American Civil War officers. Still, that was a good movie and a grudge-tainted credit to Tom Cruise. Just saw an interview last night on Night Line with John Grisham, who has written so many great fiction books that became great movies. In one of those, "The Firm", Tom Cruise was very good...as I recall. I still have not checked out your movie recommendation, but I will, eventually.
71268 days ago Unrated Rate Positive Rate Negative
Rob and Kelly did indeed do those voices (and one other Aussie surfer of renown I'm not as familiar with). Later in the film Kelly talks about surfing in a way I totally understand, where you have a really good wave that gives you that addictive feeling you keep coming back for, and yet when the ride is over it gets hard to really remember what it was like ... you just know it was amazing, and you want it again. This film is an homage to surfing. One reviewer called it a Mockumentary. Totally wrong. Surfers played a part in its development, and if you get the DVD and watch the extras, especially how they created their water effects, it's clear nothing mocking was intended at all (except for Tank Evans - note: his eyes are different colors). As to Last Samurai, Tom is just there to make it easier for western viewers to have something to identify with. Hollywood, however, has a habit of taking heroic deeds of real foreigners and ascribing them to fictional Americans. No one else is allowed to do anything of merit ... didn't you know?
71264 days ago -2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
And you continue to be guilty as charged. I was a university lecturer for 15 years (including 13 months at the U of Kent at Canterbury), so I can't help but feel that your failure to carefully view "Surf's Up" is tantamount to not having studied for your exam ... and it's going to be a hard one (the exam that is - I don't know what your naughty mind was thinking about).
Spongerdudette1264 days ago -2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Hahaha...Moi...a naughty mind...never ;) It's been more then a bit hectic for me over the past few days...actually few weeks. But I will ''study'' that I promise...coz I wouldn't want a detention or a black mark from the teacher... would an apple make it better ;)
71264 days ago Unrated Rate Positive Rate Negative
Apple? True story: I had a female student once tell me she'd "do just anything for an A" on her exam. Prior to this, while I was in another room, she had done her best to make herself as attractive as possible using an office door window as a mirror, fluffing her hair, and unbuttoning the top button of her shirt. How do I know? Because my new wife (whom the student did not know) was sitting just 20 feet away, and witnessed the whole thing. So you see, apples just won't cut it. I've been offered so much more.
Spongerdudette1263 days ago -2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Blast!!!...It was worth a go though ;) But some girlies will stop at nothing to get what they want. But gotta ask what did your wife do, apart from telling you that is?
71263 days ago -2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
The big question is: what would I have done had she not been there? But she didn't do anything other than give me an anthropologically precise assessment of the students behavio(u)r. Later we shared a laugh when I suggested how I should have responded to the student's seductive comment: "Just let me check with my wife. She's sitting right over there." At the time the student and my wife looked about the same age, so no way would the student have guessed who the other female was.
Spongerdudette1263 days ago -3 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative

Yes, she looks quite fetching. But the longevity of her appeal, of course, rests largely on the way she wears her outfits, which she knowingly keeps just on the verge - sometimes past the verge - of exposing some naughty bit or other. Even as a kid I found this animated minx strangely intoxicating. Your icon is, methinks, well chosen.

But it's def being saved along with the others in my Betty collection :) And I wouldn't think twice about giving you my e-mail address coz that's no problem whatsoever. I had a feeling you'd wait until I was safely out of the UK before replying to that. But it's ok, it wasn't only slaps. Quite a few women with great legs, when asked if they sponge, took me by the arm, looked lovingly into my eyes, and replied: "Sponge? You bet I sponge. Are you dirty? I'll clean you up real nice. I hate it because it's sooo false...or should I say the people are. I mean everyone is going around wishing people good tidings and then the rest of the year don't give a damn about them or barely speak to them. Also it's become too commercialised and just about buying big expensive presents and there's no true meaning of Christmas. I would rather someone give me a small present but with the knowledge that they would be/are there for me if I needed help throughout the year. I would actually go to any lenghts possible to help my family or friends if they needed it. I did change my profile pic earlier but had to change it back because after uploading it half of Betty's head was missing!!!!!! hahahah ;)

Ah, youthful idealism. I had it in bucketfuls once upon a time. Any praiseworthy idea that attracts the attention of large numbers of people will also attract those wishing to take advantage of those people, to subvert the idea, and bend its meaning to serve their own selfish ends. This has always been so; it will always be so. What you have to do is see through the dreck - find the core, polish it up, and keep it in your pocket.

That is oh so true 7, like you say there is always someone ready to exploit others or a situation. I suppose that really I'm full of ideaism that way because I really wish that people were honest and straight with each other. But one thing that I do hope is that experiences don't made me the same way, but I'll try to find it, polish it and keep that core in my pocket :)

Totally excellent. Hormones bubbling, which is what you were after - I am but a slave to chemistry.

Well, missing the play on words from a classic line in an old scary 'manly' but CLASSIC movie like "JAWS" is...understandable. But not catching on to that well-known quote and scene of Renee Zellweger's in what is really a fairly recent chic flick Tom Cruise movie is...a little disappointing. What woman on earth hasn't seen this scene about 20 times? =( OK, so I'M playing the role of Renee Zellweger here...maybe that IS a little confusing. I wont throw any more subtle pop-cultural derived lines at you any more, I promise. I can't take the crickets & their echo chamber!!!...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpWAlvWNZj0&NR=1

Yeah it was 7, and I'm glad that you like it :) But again sorz Coelocanth, as I've been real slow on the uptake lately with your quotes...all the multi tasking is starting to take its toll on me ;) Unable to get that link right now, but will def try it again when I get home :)

Small wonder I miss 70% of what goes on on this site. Still, someone recently called a wave Frankenstein, to which I responded, "Merry beach shell, eh?" Probably no one got that, so it balances out.

I think that you're right there 7, it's sooo easy to lose track of the conversations. And I think that people do miss cryptic clues to peoples comments. I mean look at Coelocanth he's had to explain practically everything to me this week...poor man! ;)

Hahaha...That's good 7. I wish I had seen that. Where is that anyway?...It deserves at least some recognition...if not a whole thread of replies in response. It's almost Halloween isn't it?

I think I see what the problem was 7. Everyone saw that 'eh' at the end and just assumed you were Canadian(in spite of your obviously American flag)and so, naturally, just ignored you.=0

Btw...I did pick up on that Ms Anne O'Reksic comment on the Steamer Lane bikini babe pic...but I had nothing nearly as good as that to add to that!...I may have given you a +1 for that, but now I forget. Her upper body did seem a little bit deprived of nutrition...but the rest of her looked divine. Plus, some of the photogs can be soooo touchy...about comments I mean.

Yes, and as far as pulchritude is concerned (SD, close your ears - this is guy talk), one wonders where to draw the line. I erased 2 or 3 ripe comments about a very comely surfing female in a small bikini when I discovered she was 13. Her age ought to have been in the pic title (there was no way to tell just by looking) - and comments should have been disabled. I have a thing about pedophiles, and it's not a positive thing. SD is quite the flirt - I just hope she's not 13 ... or a 55 year old fat hairy truck (lorry) driver. (Ok, SD, you can listen again.) So, how 'bout those Red Sox, eh? (Still not Canadian, although I wish I lived in Lawrencetown.)

The photographer RPM who took and posted those photos was bang out of order. That's why I left comments not only on the actual photos, but also on RPM's profile page but he never bothered to reply. But on his next lot of photos of the young girl he stated her age, but because he had a lot fewer views, he once again omitted her age when he posted even more of her. She is a very talented surfer to which we all agree, but she does look more like 20+ and naturally boys will be boys. But all it seemed like was that he wanted his shots to go front page or top rated regardless of anything else. There are several photographers on here (who shall remain nameless for the moment at least) that deletes comments which doesn't contain anything except praise for their ''skill' or their photos, which does annoy me. And now it's got to the stage where I won't even look at their shots. If you upload photos on here you got to go with it, unless they are really REALLY bad. And don't worry 7 I'm not 13 or a hairy trucker!!!! I'm 28 and all woman :)

28 and "all" woman? Pshaw! How can I know for sure without abundant prurient photographic evidence? Ok, ok, that was naughty. Bad boy! Bad!

Hey dudette...Porty wants to know if you have a pic address or two for that girl surfer you were talking about...the one in those RPM pics.=0

Does he now?? Well I'll believe you there Coelocanth. But just to save you guys from going through all of the 2000 odd photo's, here it is..... http://magicseaweed.com/photoLab/viewPhoto.php?photoId=147825&browseSession=cf9540f764423a7b2b2faa8abe98e20a As you'll be able to see there was over 18,000 views, 195 votes and goodness knows how many deleted comments...you guys are so bad ;) But once it came out that she was only 13, have a look to see how the votes etc dropped and then you'll see exactly what I was on about... http://magicseaweed.com/photoLab/viewPhoto.php?photoId=147982&browseSession=cf9540f764423a7b2b2faa8abe98e20a
