There was a really good program on our local public broadcasting station(WPBS-Ch42)last night called 'God In America'...It was part one...Part two is tonight, I think. It explored how religion & government were so inextricably linked when Europeans first settled America...and how difficult & complex the struggles were to separate them...And to establish 'Freedom Of Religion' in our 'Bill of Rights'. We're still strugglin'!

I'm going to write a letter to the new, 'moderate Islamist' leader of Morocco's Parliament. I'm going to tell him/them that surf-tourism/industry dollars...from Europe, America...even Australia...will pour into their country...if they change the name of the slab break now called Jack Beach...to Salah al-Din's!...aka Saladin's...What a heavy, scary...yet still chivalrous and popular...guy he was to the West once upon a time!!!...Sooo symbolic!...Are you with me Younssy?
Younes1022 days ago +56 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
hahaha! You understood that slab has never been in Jack Beach (which is one of the crappiest beachy there is...), don't you?
Coelacanth1021 days ago +58 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Nope...I didn't know that before about Jack Beach. Just trying to lighten up the 'gone Islamist' mood there. Btw...where are your great pics of Oualidia...especially that one of the big plowed field set to grow some crop just behind the dune line? I'll look again. Just read through our 'mega-ribbed/mega-ripped' thread again for a laugh...and noticed I had made a slang mistake similar to yours with a 'foreign' dialect...a bit further down. I typed xxx-mozzy...instead of xxx-moggy. Mozzy is Aussie slang for mosquito...Moggy is what the Brits call a cat...AND...even tho' 'ribbed' makes a little more sense when talking about the abdominal area...I think it is the 'ripples'(like little waves)of taught, firm abdominal muscles that the slang term 'mega-ripped' derives from. Sooo much ever increasing English slang...sooo little time or patience to keep up with it. DING-A-LING-A-LING(bell sound)...OK...that's enough lesson for today Younssy...You are probably surfed out anyway...Wish that was my problem(sigh)...Priglord out!...

Here's an alternate, secular name for that 'secret' slab break Younssy...that only goes back a little bit in 'history'. Named for a 1960's Hollywood-produced cartoon character favorite of mine back when..."El Kabong"!

I wish our fundamentalist Christian voters/politicians cared more about helping the poor and middle classes...than they do about forcing their beliefs on everyone else through government and attacking liberals, moderates and 'secular humanists' in and out of government. President Obama was criticized for not mentioning 'GOD' by name in his official Thanksgiving Day speech...by some Bible-thumping politician trying to appeal to his base of voters in 'Gooberville' USA...If that 'moderate Islamist' party in Morocco can deliver the goods through Keynesian-based economic reforms and serious reduction of corruption...more 'power' to them...up to a point. I guess the trade-off was that they made a commitment to give MORE legitimacy to the king than the previous secular ruling party wanted to. Does the king play both sides against each other to stay in power???...It might turn out better for Morocco than you might think right now. Can't say the same for Egypt though.

That Johnny Utah comeback went right over my head. I didn't realize your cleverness or it's significance there until today. I had forgotten my rant about loathing Keanu Reeves as an actor not long ago...right here on your page. Trying to provoke me ehhh?...Plus, I just never was into 'Point Break' and only vaguely knew the plot...probably by reading about it somewhere out of some slight curiosity...so I didn't pick up on the girl-dumping-boy thing in that movie either...The girl dumped Bodhi for Johnny Utah...right?...PLUS...You were playing off ole doc's line about me getting out of prison for good behavior...right?. Pretty complex thinking there Younssy...So I'm...Bodhi?...Well I AM a big wave charger, so...yeah I guess I AM Bodhi!...Wait...aren't I supposed to be McGyver?

Hey Younss...Thought I'd mention a book I've read about 2/3rds of this past week that might interest you. It's very good. It's titled 'The Black Banners'...and it's mostly about Al Qaeda. I first learned about it and the author Ali Soufan on Jon Stewart's show sometime in the last few months. Soufan was one of the main characters investigating pre- 9/11 Al Qaeda crimes against the USA...working as an FBI agent. I'll relate more if you want me to when I'm finished with it.

Ha Ha Ha...Well, I did say 'make a game of it' didn't I?...Thanks for playing along...but that was not THE one I had in mind...I did save YOUR pick of the pics to my faves though. I love that hat too. It's an el cheapo($10)Chinese product I saw in the outdoor/gardening dept. of a Home Depot while I was waiting in line to buy something else. Didn't even have to add a drawstring to THIS one...like I have with my past cheap sun-blocking hats...I do tend to lose them in whitewater on biggish days...even with the tightened drawstring...usually after a brutal pounding...At one point years ago...I started using a homemade hat 'leash' with a 2 ft. nylon cord and an upper arm band(~1 ft. length, 1" wide, double-sided Velcro strapping). A simple idea that works well to keep from losing them...Also cheap.
Younes1090 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Lol! I found the pic you're talking about (a chick doing her take off, isn't it?), but i thought this one was way funnier :) What the hell is she doing, walking??? Regarding your hat and your home made leash, i was just thinking, do you attach it to your ear (left one since you're goofy...) ? I really think I might get a hat myself, i'm starting to be moe and more concerned about my skin (especially during sumer), sun-block does not work very well... More & more sunspots on my face, scary...
Coelacanth1090 days ago -3 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
That is NOT the pic I was thinking of either...but it IS a really good one too...That photog. took a LOT of pics...many of which, in my opinion, were forgetable. Here's the one I meant. Oddly, I do think this is the same girl as in your first guess(w. pic #)...where she didn't look nearly as impressive...http://magicseaweed.com/photoLab/viewPhoto.php?photoId=235366...RE: 'The Hat'...I create a small hole(nail scissors works OK for me)in the back perimeter of the hat brim(or the loosly hanging cloth back-flap that comes with some front-brimmed caps)and install a small brass grommet(fabric store tool/materials kit). One end of the ~2 ft. braided nylon cord(1/8"dia)is tied to that...the other end is tied into a small loop... through which the Velcro strap/armband runs...That is wrapped around my right bicep(which side doesn't matter)and overlaps itself securely...it being double-sided Velcro. The nylon cord loop stays attached in one place with no looseness or detachment...once it is pressed firmly against the Velcro strap/armband surface somewhere near the ~1 ft. long strap midpoint.

Florida is bad...but Australia is even worse...for sun/solar radiation exposure and resulting skin cancer. I got sunburned many times in my careless, foolish youth. That was when the real, unseen, genetic damage to deeper layer skin cells was done. The skin cancers(basal and squamous cell carcinomas)started showing up decades later...I had a lot removed in various ways in my forties...mostly on the face and neck. None recently. You have plenty of time to deal with them, though. Moles, however, can turn into melanomas quickly with(and even w/out)the sun's help. And then they can rapidly metastasize throughout the body if not surgically removed soon enough. If they metastasize...you are screwed...period. Two surfer friends of mine in Ft. Pierce died from moles-turned-melanomas...in their thirties!...I keep reading negative reports about the effectiveness of sun block skin creams of all kinds and all SPF ratings. A hat works way better than all of them. Almost total direct blockage and never wears off.

I saw Veepstar's(see what I did there?)latest profile statement...complaining(I would have said 'whinging'...or 'whining'...except that I agree with him)about Hollywood's plan to do a remake of the extreme sport/surf cultural touchstone film 'Point Break' soon...I don't like remakes of anything. It's just lazy & coldly commercial. I am sad to say...I don't remember much about Point Break anymore...except maybe the hokey ending...It's probably because of Keanu Reeves...I loathe Keanu Reeves for some unexplainable reason...Maybe because every other movie I've ever tried to watch with him in it...was a bad one...to me anyway. Same with Adam Sandler...I just don't get it...or their appeal...Ennyhoo, when I did a Google search earlier tonight on Marty Feldman...for totally unrelated reasons...I noticed that he had produced, directed and starred in a movie called 'The Last Remake Of Beau Geste'...It was set in Morroco(actually filmed in Spain)...and was a comedy spoof of a Hollywood heroic movie classic from the late 1920s...called 'Beau Geste'...That earlier classic was about the glorious French Foreign Legion...fighting Arabs(& Berbers?)in the Sahara Desert...I would probably watch a comedy spoof called 'The Last Remake Of Point Break'...but only if it was actually set AND filmed in Morocco...and had camels...and no Keanu Reeves.

The one little twerp 'El Prowlio'(sp?)...dissed VP...calling him boring. Like the twerp himself has ever provided anyone with any entertainment at all...on purpose that is...I think maybe weeders should have to pass some kind of humor/intelligence test before being allowed to join MSW...and then be carefully monitored for any failures or lapses(JUST KIDDING Byron Bay Man...You know who you are!)...What's even worse...el twerpio declared(elsewhere)that sarcasm was the lowest form of wit...Like he or most of his borg-like sponger 'ilk' would know 'wit' if it 'bit' them in the ass...Or be able to arrange 'levels' of wit in ascending or descending order according to value...Ignorance, stubborness & a lack of humor DO kinda drive me up the wall...if I let them...and NOT in a good way...like with Hurricane swells...On a related subject...I did get some kinda fun little zippers from T.S. That's probably my(& dudette's)own personal, obsessive neg rater Chalky/Stalky/(a bunch of other sequential name changes)/Tequila Sunrise. He's baaaa'aaack. He went all weird awhile back...Oddly, whilst picking on spongers & being attacked back by them. And he blames us, I think, for the loss of several of his alternate profiles(Fredthedrugy, Moosey etc.)...with which he had been leaving bizarre, nonsensical comments in a stalker-like, annoying mode in various unwelcome places. He had a serious jones for all the lady&surfchick-pics too! He apparently still has one profile...possibly two...left, with which he does his obsessive negging now. I dassn't complain about it now...due to my shameful history of complaining to MSW admin. openly(and in one case...Andrew...privately)about that kind of thing. I actually like the negs he gives me now...It beats reading his bizarre, disturbed and not-so-funny comments any day. It IS too bad he went all weird and that his main profile page seems to be dormant now. He seemed OK to me for the few months I exchanged comments with him. He actually was a pretty good surf photog & still(?)has a SA surfinfo website too...Go figure. He probably uses a different profile to do his negging of us now...and I think I know which one it is. Or I could be totally wrong about it being him at all.

Coelacanth1100 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
I'm glad you told me that Younss. Thanks. I also watched that J.S. show from ten years ago...just days after 9/11. It was a valuable reminder to me of how hard it was for Americans...especially for New Yorkers...to recover from that unbelievable shock and horror. I thought of posting the link to that too...but it's better somehow that you were interested and curious enough to check it out yourself. David Letterman did a similar thing the same(?)night...and it was worth watching as a historical reminder too...What is so bizarre to me now...is that 'the masses' here have become more and more Balkanized into separate mutually hostile camps in the meantime...by the mega-corporations' financial/influential power over almost all the news outlets and virtually all the so-called 'professional' journalists. We have become a 'Roman wilderness of pain'(Jim Morrison)...being given bread & circuses('Dancing With The Stars')to distract us from the corruption & waste & misplaced priorities that is REALLY killing us slowly but surely. And that only certain comedians like Jon Stewart...POSING as journalists...are able to do what REAL journalists USED to do here...anymore. It IS noteworthy thing that he often brings in writers of good recent books as guests...and promotes their work. People need to read stuff that challenges them and makes them smarter, wiser and less set in their ways. Instead of watching Balkanized 'news' outlets that just reinforce their carefully crafted(by 'others')prejudices, ignorance, false beliefs...and hatreds...for profit.

(lets see how the neg raters will go with this one)An Arab had spent many days crossing the desert without finding a source of water. It got so bad that his camel died of thirst. He crawled through the sands, certain that he was breathing his last breath, when suddenly, he saw a shiny object sticking out of the sand several yards ahead of him. He crawled to the object, pulled it out of the sand, and discovered that he had a Manischewitz wine bottle. It appeared that there may be a drop or two left in the bottle, so he unscrewed the top, and out popped a genie. BUT this was no ordinary genie. This genie appeared to be a Chasidic Rabbi, complete with black alpaca coat, black hat, side curls, and tzitzis. 'Vell kid,' said the genie, 'you know how it voiks. You got three vishes.' 'I'm not going to trust you,' says the Arab. 'I'm not going to trust a Jewish genie!' 'Vott'ya you got to lose? Looks ta me - you're a gonner anyvay!' The Arab thought about this for a minute, and decided that the genie was right. 'Okay, I wish I were in a lush oasis, with plentiful food and drink.' * * * * * * * P O O F * * * * * * * * * The Arab found himself in the most beautiful oasis he had ever seen and he was surrounded with jugs of wine and platters of delicacies. 'Okee-dokee kiddo, vat's your second vish?' 'My second wish is that I were rich beyond my wildest dreams.' * * * * * * * P O O F * * * * * * * * * The Arab found himself surrounded by treasure chests filled with rare old coins and precious gems. 'Okay kid, you got just vone more vish. Better you should make it a good vone!' After thinking for a few minutes, the Arab says, 'I wish that no matter where I go, beautiful women will always need and want me!' * * * * * * * P O O F * * * * * * * * * He was turned into a tampon.. THE MORAL OF THE STORY: If you're an Arab doing business with a Jewish genie, there's going to be a string attached.

I couldn't have put this any better myself. This is a copied reply to one of the current online Weiner articles. Since the word 'puritanical' is used...I am reminded of the Biblical parable from my early Southern Baptist indoctrination days...the one about people who can swallow camels...yet choke on a gnat..."Jaysus 77 Fans 16 minutes ago (9:49 AM) What a puritanical farce this nation is......... We let our politicians promise us they are on our side, and most of them become unadulterated shills for corporate sociopaths who want to have everything their way at our expense. Endless pointless wars, dependence on unsustainable fuels, predatory financial institutions, inhumane health care system....these people support very bad policy on behalf of very bad people for shameful reasons every day. These are the real transgressions against us. Ironically, Mr Weiner fights pretty hard for average people and has spoken truth to power on our behalf way more than most, which is why I suspect his private life is being targeted......he makes the corporatists seem amoral. What he does for sexual gratification, as long as it's consensual is none of your business. He doesn't tell you the truth because collectively we are puritanical sexual adolescents who can't handle it. We have a short attention span for how we are being sold out by people who should be on our side, yet we remain fixated for weeks on this guys refusal to admit he gets off on sending nude photos of himself to strangers. We've missed the real obscenity here"

Thanks mate!! Top articles! 1/ Defo! Be consistent! But never invade any country without being ready to support the consequences on your own people... You know how wounded animals react, it's the same with people... Plus what about self determination? Is it a notion enforceable only in the west? Wesern world, leave us alone please, enough is enough! 2/ 40-lipsticked-virgins : Everybody knew about those lovely ladies for a long time now... I doubt they're virgins and hate that discriminantory title, like if every arab woman was virgin or had to be virgin, it's total bullshit (ps: doesn't the Bible ask the same from its worshipers?), come ooooooon, stop puting people in boxes... 3/ Ignorant voters : That's an excellent article... I've been debating about this topic with friends for years now, i still don't have the answer to that question... It's the limits of the so calle "democracy" system, especially in poor countries, where ignorance and poverty are synonymous, allowing some politicians to use bribery to win elections... 4/ See below 5/ Poor President Obama... I respect him for what he is and for what he had/has to face, good luck to him and damn the Tea party!!! Thanks again Coolio

Hey Younss...I have found some DVD movie classics at the local library recently that you might have already seen...or want to see. I thought both were excellent. The one DVD very recently made one was called 'Babel'. Brad Pitt & Cate Blanchett were the biggest actor names in it...It involved three different domestic stories in very different parts of the world...America(& Mexico-both sides of the border really), Morocco & Japan...but each story had some connections to the other...The other DVD was an old classic I'd heard the name of before...but never seen. It was 'Behold A Pale Horse'...Gregory Peck, Anthony Quinn & Omar Sharif were the biggest names in it. It was a story set in Spain & France some years after the Spanish Civil War had ended and Spain was then firmly in the grip of the Fascist dictator General Francisco Franco. It was a police state. I did not know much about that conflict...but have since learned...via Google...a bit about Morocco's Spanish past & Franco's military occupation there prior to the Spanish Civil War....More later, maybe...
Younes1250 days ago -1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Thanks Coolio, nice movies here! I saw Babel a coupe years ago and liked it... I'll check out "Behold a pale horse" asap, sounds classic!!! Plus that par of the Moroccan history is still very blurry, you know that Franco used Moroccan soldiers (who've been forced, even young kids) against his spanish fellas during the civil war in Spain... The f***er also gased the northern moroccan population in the Rif (north Morocco) - This movie is defo interesting... Tnx mate! ps: i scored this w.e
Coelacanth1248 days ago -9 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
I did not know that about Franco using Moroccan kids as soldiers in the Spanish Civil War. I did know that he had assistance from Hitler in the form of air power, both bomber and fighter aircraft...which is probably what made the difference. The famous Picasso painting, Guernica, depicted that atrocity on innocent civilians, which shocked the world at the time. I also know that religion played a major role in that conflict...as it has in so many others.

Anyway...this is take two...I found this library DVD about Florida's mostly hidden(and often ugly)history...called 'Cracker Crazy'...a few days ago and enjoyed watching it. You can watch the entire thing too...if you want to. It's based on actual state archives...but it has a political slant too. Florida's now infamous, ignorant, media attention-craving, Quran burning religious wacko inspired me to think you might be interested. Thank you Coolio for your interest in what's going on around you, it is not something very common in the US I guess, and I really appreciate US citizens with open minds who have your curiosity. These articles were very interesting. I'd read about Mrs Laroui's terrible story & her immolation... Poor lady! But as you read, Morocco is a developping country; and in some areas, it's just an extremely poor country with huge inequalities. We as Moroccans have to do something about it, by voting for the right people & pushing for more reforms, faster. But I don't believe that such desperate acts would be the solution. First, because suicide has bever been a solution, 2nd, because we don't want to follow our neighbours like sheeps. As you saw, Morocco is neither Tunisia, nor Egypt, and certainly not Lybia! Reforms started more than a decade ago, we should capitalize & develop, and try to avoid chaos by all means. I hope you'll have the opportunity to come visit this country some day, we could then chat about all this "live" around a good drink (Moroccan tea?). Cheers amigo and keep your eyes open!

Watched a good DVD a few days ago...picked at random because of the names and subject matter. The title was 'Goya's Ghosts'...with Natalie Portman & Javier Bardem the main actors. It covered the times & turmoil Goya depicted in his art...beginning with the maddeningly subtle and deceptive yet graphic evils of the then still active Spanish Inquisition through Napolean's 'liberation' of the Iberian peninsula and eventual defeat by forces led by the English Duke of Wellington. It's no wonder so many people ended up in insane asylums back then.

Oh Jeeze...What a temptation to write an essay. I'll try to make sense of my own jumbled thoughts...as briefly as possible...Or will I? The recent uprisings against corrupt regimes from North Africa to Iran wanting democracy and more shared economic control & opportunities are a ray of hope as I see it. I hope it eventually creates less of a West vs East cultural divide atmosphere and recruiting opportunity for terrorism. The USA was misled for eight long years by a religiously inspired, inherited-riches dolt...himself ultimately controlled by the interests of the rich... and just barely elected & then crookedly(in Florida!!!) re-elected...by an unholy combination of religious idiots, dumbasses who don't read or learn from History...or who do still believe all the myths they've been brainwashed to believe, racists, right-wing radio talk show & Fox News devotees/wackos, loyal Republican party members(mostly of upper income levels), fiscal and/or social conservatives, 9/11 terrorism revenge-seekers...and the misguided poor...slow learners who STILL think permanent tax breaks for the rich and trickle-down economics(Reaganomics)works to stimulate the economy...and will stubbornly vote against their own economic self-interest in some misguided notion that government funded social programs and benefits to 'others'(...ie, 'the poor' & immigrants)are what's really making them poorer(ie. trailer-park Republicans). They are usually beneficiaries of government programs...like welfare, food stamps, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid...themselves. True democracy can't be 'exported'...like the previous USA president...led by his blindered right-wing oil-bucks & war-supply contracts cronies...apparently tried to do in Iraq. And democracy withers when the rich get richer, poor get poorer...and the middle class gets smaller and smaller. The USA is now rapidly headed in that direction...many individual states fixated NOW on balancing budgets to deal with depressed economies & loss of tax revenues...in the wake of massive transfers of wealth to the already mega-rich...in banking/insurance/corporate investment scams(aided by previous government deregulation and/or lack of any gov't regulation) and subsequent related USA government(ie. USA taxpayer)bailouts...in the USA...and worldwide. The rich in the USA(and elsewhere?)get these wild & crazy economic bubbles started(like the latest Real Estate Mortgage-backed 'bundled' securities/derivatives/toxic assets)with their huge amounts of untaxed mad-money chasing ever higher & riskier returns in a contagious, greedy game of musical chairs. It's interesting that these freedom & democracy-inspired 'revolutions' occuring now are happening in the wake of a worldwide recession in places where the effects of corruption by the wealthy and powerful are even more apparent and intolerable.

Probably...Personally...my sanity is at risk if I don't get some decent waves pretty soon...In the meantime...as long as we've still got intelligent, funny, kick-ass comedians like Jon Stewart & Steve Colbert of Comedy Central...doing the investigative research & interviews that our info-tainment/highly paid, media celebrity 'journalists' should have been doing all along(...but really haven't!!!)...there is still some hope for the USA...Here's Paul Wolfowitz's boss, Donald Rumsfeld...the past maker of most of the flawed, tragic Iraq War decisions...and currently shilling his book about that war...being interviewed by Jon Stewart. Our Fourth Estate(Professional Journalism)...was never able to take this guy Rumsfeld on effectively...not that they ever tried very hard. You can see by his crafty, parsing-words stubborness and unwillingness to concede most points unless forced to...why that was. He does seem a lot less arrogant now than he did when he had power and used it...http://www.theatlanticwire.com/opinions/view/opinion/Jon-Stewart-Finally-Talks-to-Rumsfeld-7103

Coelacanth1336 days ago -4 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Well, hmmmm...not for Nasty P it didn't. Actually...not for Nixon either. Americans would have let the President's connection to the Watergate burglars go...if they'd got the truth from him early on about it. Instead of an obsessive, coverup campaign and repeated lies that seemed to defined him("I am NOT a crook")...and drive a war-weary America even further nuts. He had to resign in disgrace...to keep from being impeached. Weirdly...Most people already knew Clinton was a lyin', philanderin' horny dawg when they elected him. But he was smart, 'cool' and 'talked good'...for a Southerner. Plus...they were sick by then of a blue blood Bush(The First)who sat on his hands...and laurels...after kicking Saddam Hussein's ass/military out of Kuwait. And then let America slide into a serious economic recession with his inherited(from Reagan)tax cuts for the rich malarky. Hmmmmmm. Clinton's main priority on day one was economic recovery...and he succeeded quickly with a lot of help from a booming Silicon Valley. He actually managed to decrease the national debt with annual budget surpluses as tax revenues from the computer industry explosion poured into Washington. THAT was almost pure luck. Al Gore(The V.P.) could have cruised into the Presidency instead of Bush(The Second)if it hadn't been for that 'blowjob heard 'round the world'(Monica Lewinsky). That poisoned the well for Gore...getting the Bible thumpers all foamy-at-the-mouth for a 'moral', born-again, overtly Christian leader like Bush#2...no matter how stupid he seemed or talked before he was elected(or WAS he?)...Moral of this story: Lies & fakery are bad(and Republicans are EVIL).

Hey Younss...That one "Why" comment you left on that PDB Sarge pic of the Juno Beach surfer girl riding 2 ft. mush...followed by my kidding, kinda snarky reply...caused the photog(PDB Sarge)some anxiety. I hope you're happy. I had to explain in my usual lengthy way that we weren't criticising that pic or him...or any of his many submitted pics. I like the variety and compositions of the pics he shares with us. And made a point of saying so. We wouldn't have all those great recent pics of Mel without him either.

To wish him good night & sweet dreams two, i told him : "Mentoza, imagine if one of 'em f.ckers, evil flying ace, sets his GPS on your shit-h..le, and makes you n°1 target... do you reckon that'd hurt?" . Being of the tree-hugging, peace-loving, conflict-avoiding persuasion myself...I was unaware of any symbolism in imaginary military rankings assigned to a person by others as a means of poking fun and/or ridicule...other than calling someone a General...or maybe an Inspector. I'm guessing Younss must have some Morocco national service military background...not that there's anything wrong with that...wink, wink...to come up with that rank for Mentoza. I had to do a little sleuthing to understand that Younss. You are probably sophisticated & familiar enough with us 'Westerners' to know where my pre-wink disclaimer came from. I could have sworn you accepted Mantis' surrender days & days ago. But apparently there is still stubborn resistance to that fact on the ground. Like those damned Japanese in their caves!...Sorry, that just slipped out...I AM NOT RACIST!...I've found something funny we can ALL appreciate Younss...but especially you and Mantis. A Monty Python clip! Mantis just LOVES them. What??? John Wayne, stories? Just legends, myth...? But... butt.. porn.., no... don't tell me... no, no way!
Coelacanth1351 days ago +4 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Younss...I just Googled that S. Huntington/Clash Of Civ. etc. reference to see what YOU meant. I just remembered you using that term 'C. of C.' recently. That book and author were new to me. I think theories and predictions like that are interesting...but that's about it. History is filled with random contingencies that were not predictable and changed predicted outcomes. I did read a great thick book with small print by Bernard Lewis called "The Middle East" a few years ago...It was hard to put down. I knew Lewis was a pre-emininent Western scholar/historian of Islam before...but just learned a few controversial things about him in his academic circles after searching his list of books and his biography. I've read a lot of books & articles about world history over the years...in which religions of some kind have always played a major part. I've gradually filled in huge gaps in my knowledge base. But not much of what I read is readily recalled. I just find a new direction of reading interest usually from curiosities created in what I've read before. Gotta be curious about stuff first though, I guess. And then willing to act on that in some way...through books or other means. I am aware of the debt the West owes Islam for preserving the knowledge of Roman and Greek antiquities during The Dark Ages after Rome's collapse. The Irish also helped save Western Civilization from The Dark Ages.
Coelacanth1351 days ago -1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
I thought you were talking about all the ridiculous, pathetic and misguided Western Christian religious attacks and looting missions on Jews and Arabs during the various 'Crusades' against Islam to 'save' holy relics and other things in the Holy Lands & Jerusalem when you said 'Clash Of Civilizations'.
Younes1351 days ago -2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Nice effort and references Coolio, thank you for that! In our real lives, Curiosity is one of he things we've got in common I think (probably not just both of us, but all the "regular MSW users" out here :). I think we all want to have fun for sure, but we are also probably curious about the kind of life that "somebody", in that far country, typing behind his screen, is living... what kind of surf, culture, believes... Tha's coo' ! :))
Younes1351 days ago -11 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
There are misunderstandings, now that's for sure! :) I was actually talking about the neo-cons. theories (Huntington, Wolfowitz, ...), one of 'em being this "Clash Of Civilizations"... I knew a lot of their bullshit had "Crusades" connotations (the Bad vs Evil...), but I wasn't going that far in history...
Coelacanth1351 days ago -3 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Yep...I saw all those neo-con names also when I Googled that book title and saw what it meant for past, recent & current events and future trends. Wolfowitz was/is(?) a really sorry piece of work among many. I just watched a Library DVD a few weeks ago called 'Charlie Wilson's War' with Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts & Philip Seymour Hoffman about the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan...and eventual withdrawal under duress from Afghan fighters with some, minimal but critical, 'secret' American military assistance. What a great movie. It was quirky and historically accurate. Our Congress lost interest in helping Afghanistan recover from that invasion and widespread destruction at all once the Soviets left...and the whole world is still paying the price for that stupidity, misplaced priorities and lack of foresight and neglect. The movie 'The Kite Runner' was also an excellent story and a way to understand the tragedy of Afghanistan's fairly recent history on a personal level that Westerners can relate to and sympathize with. I still have a lot to learn.

My train of thought got derailed somewhere in this thread after I mentioned the irony I saw in dubbing YOU as King Arthur in that video clip. In mythology/sketchy history he was associated with at least one of the Christian Crusades AGAINST Islam, I think. But YOU are an Islamic 'King Arthur'! Say Whaaaaat!
Younes1351 days ago -10 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Well, ok lol! If you say so... But you know Coolio, now that you're talkin about the two (too? no two!), you got to know that as a "humanist" (not flattering my self here..), i'm way more interested by foreign politics than religion (i'm not really into it, even if I believe in the Force, you know...), and that's where it comes back into play... you see what i mean? Religion is coming back into play because some politicians (mainly from the 3 religions of the Book) want to use it as a mass manipulation tool ("the opium of the people" Marx said...), it worked during the crusades, it worked yesterday, and it will most probably work tomorow... And that is the danger, ignorant manipulated masses are the danger. These volatile masses have one thing in common, they are present all around the Globe in every country... I'm not against religion, but against ignorance... which is certainly not a notion you know fellow General!

I hear ya about fear of religious masses everywhere in the world being manipulated. Fear & ignorance are powerful forces driving people to and from religions...organized or not. There are ruthless people that can take advantage of that everywhere too...for the power and wealth it brings them. Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin are only two(see what I did there?)of the latest media-manipulating & media(Fox News)-promoted 'newsworthy' posers in America getting rich off misguided believers of various faiths, non-critical 'thinkers', emotionally vulnerable but good hearted types, dolts, racists and haters. Don't know if the rest of the world can pay attention to much of America's bizarre internal struggles while dealing with pressing issues in their own countries too...I used to keep track of a lot...but not much anymore. It's too damned depressing to see so much waste and ignorance...and evil...repeating and feeding on itself. We still have a fringe political group refered to as 'Birthers' NOW trying to question the validity of the statehood of Hawaii...as a means to try to discredit the legitimacy of our president's legally established place of birth to delegitimize his claim to elected office. Sarah Palin is with them. She could run for president in two years and is deluded enough right now to think she could win. Or it's just an act to continue fleecing the ignorant and getting richer until the circus is over. Probably the latter.

I just can't understand how you can buy & hold a gun that easily, especially after all the tragedies you've been through... You got to thank the lovely people from NRA i guess... It's not even thinkable over here. In morocco, no one has the right to carry a gun, the only ones allowed are the hunting riffles, for which you need to have a hunting license. Before you can hunt with it, the riffle's reference has to be recorded in the cops files with your Id. We have 0 dead by gun at home, simple... Any idea what it was underwater that you stepped on ? Glass shard from an uprite broken bottle maybe? Could there still be a fragment of something in there? Your description of rubber bands & loss of feelings reminded me of an injury to my right foot a couple years before the shark bite...on the same foot(must be unlucky). I was bottom turning into some chest-head high wind slop and was off balance and overextended. As I ducked my head into the crumbling top half of the wave, I raised my front(right)foot too far off the board. I got slammed back by the surprisingly powerful whitewater punch to my upper half and my front foot got folded under so the top of it was forced hard against the deck. Oh man that hurt...bad...for hours! I could barely get out of the water let alone walk. Think I tore some ligaments or muscle tissue in my upper foot. Swelling for days...Soaking in epsom salts. I was out of commision that time surfing-wise for a week or two. I could feel bands like sheets of muscle had separated from connective tissue & skin in there? Time eventually healed it.

i'll never know what it was. i was walking out in the shallows about to paddle out. got into waist deep water and stopped walking for a second, ready to hop up on the next little chunk of whitewater and start paddling. as i was standing there for a sec, i could feel myself sinking down into the sand (normal so far...) then as i jumped, (with enough force to pull feet up out of sand, make it above the whitewater, and to put myself on the board) i felt the sensation of something crumble under my heel, and a little pinch. i think there happened to be a bottle under the sand under my feet, when i jumped i basically stomped it, it broke, and i was mid stomp, so it cut in deeeep. my foot looked like a butterflied lobster tail. went into the middle of my heel into the tendon and then straight out the back of my foot. the rest has been a waiting game

Younss...I remember reading one or two of your comments in the past year or so where you mentioned that English is not your first language. You communicate in English text(including slang!)so well I would never have guessed that. Seriously! I've made attempts to learn German and Spanish in my early years but lacked the motivation, commitment and patience(using only books & audiotapes)to succeed. I'm sure immersion in another country's language and culture would have helped...especially when really young...children seem to absorb new knowledge effortlessly...they're like sponges. I grew up close to Miami, but not close enough for the Hispanic immersion experience one can(& will!)get there now. I really envy and respect people like yourself who can communicate so effectively and smoothly(and effortlessly?)in more than one language. How & when did you learn to do it?

Ahhh...I've just scrolled down your page and seen one of your language confessions to Mantis not long ago. That must have stuck in my head.

You've ''voiced'' exactly what I've been thinking for a long time there Coelocanth that Younss's English is extemely good. I was at one time able to speak French on a ''get by'' basic level, but am now sooo out of practise that I can just barely manage bonjour. Fair play to you Younss, as your English shows up some people whose mother tongue it is! :)

As a matter of interest, I forgot to mention something important. At 14, during my first year of english (2 decades ago!!), our teacher was a surfer's mother. She saw me drawing waves, surf logos & stuff on my rough book and told me to come see her at the end of the class, which i did. She then told me: "Listen Younes, each time you get an A in english, i'll bring you a surf movie! Deal?". I had never seen a surf movie at the time, it was a sick deal she offered me! Two weeks later, i was watching "Hawaii nine 'O"... No need to tell you I became one of the best in her class that year... Thanks Mrs. Romero!!!

What an incentative that was Younss, and it worked ;). But using that website when needed is most handy should you ever get stuck. In the UK, kids start learning French or German at the age of 11. At the age of 14/15 and deemed clever enough, they can then take on a second language which would be Spanish. I listen to the teenage kids in my area and realise that they're multi lingual before learning those other languages.....English, Bristolian....and chav!!! ;)

Hey Younss how ya doing? Sooo are you going to be uploading any of the photos from your trip on here? As for gossip......well Sqirl is on his way to Oz via some lush places, and I expect going to get some epic swell. As for ISC and Mantis, I believe that Mantis is off on a trip, but hhhmmm maybe ISC has gone with him, as she has been quiet for a day or so. And if they've got married they were very sparse on the invites lol ;)

Fine fine, thanks for asking :) I don't think i'll upload any pic from my last week's surf trip, it was fun but nothing really spectacular i guess, i doubt any would make the front page... But if you wanna have a look or if you're interested about other non-surfing related photos i took last week (landscapes, portraits...), send me your email i'll be happy to share a few as long as you keep 'em for you (i'm into the photo business aswell ;) So you're heading to OZ, sounds great! Hope to be able to make it myself to the land down under with me sweet wifey sometime... And by the way, be careful with Sqirl around

I would love to have a look at your photos Younss. But the only problem is that I wouldn't want to post my e-mail address on here...too many nutters and haters. So if there is a way of getting around this like maybe you're on facebook and don't mind putting your id address for that or your e-mail address on here, but otherwise I can only imagine how good they are. You and your wife would like to travel to Oz, just be careful if you do, as Sqirl will probably be there throwing nuts at anyone going near the waves lol ;)

I deleted it. But there is two profiles with that name. So is yours the one with someone stood by a ship, or the one with ''El'' in the name?

Great shots . I'm a photographer (amateur) in Westport WA USA and I am trying to start an international surfing event (online) on January 1st each year. I call it SURF DAY 1... and my goal is to inspire surfers to start the new year out right... in the water. What I would like (and this is where you come in) is for as many people as possible to send me a great picture from a New Years Day Surf Session.... wherever they are in the world. My goal for this first SURF DAY 1 is to get pictures from 10 countries and 50 beaches. Next year I want to make a bigger deal out of it. If you are taking pics on Jan 1 please email me one or two. Also please forward this to any other surfers and/or photographers to get the word out. You can see more about what I am talking about by going to www.surfday1.com Thanks and have a great New Year!
