big fat sigh- "not to rape the place" - this is exactly what has happened here.

scoopman has hit it on the button. ppl like the ones responsible in this video may ruin the vibe for everyone...as ppl are getting pissed as a result of videos like this which show complete ignorance of how locals feel about some spots being exposed and to big fat sigh - "There are loads of quiet, epic spots in the NE that the media respects and never goes to" - thats what should have been happening in the case of this spot. "heavy and never crowded." you obviously have never been to Scotland. the more recently exposed slabs are now CROWDED!

you're right, this has drawn more attention to it which is negative. the point still had to be made to those responsible tho

when i said "up here" i was referring to thurso/caithness not the country as a whole, where there are 0 FULL TIME surf industry employees

im not saying these guys self promotion is the problem, its just the selfish way they are doing it. no thought about the waves they have just thrown up on the internet

anchor point in morrocco and san juan in lanza are a stupid comparison to make. you dont see anyone getting this pissed off about videos of thurso east being posted - because they are not sensitive secret spots! plus im no pro surfer that is exposing this to the whole world on one of the worlds now most popular surfing sites on a homepage article, only my friends on facebook can see it, not that that is relevant

Too many daft comments to respond too. I've had an overwhelming number of emails of support from surfers, pro surfers from various countries, locals for making this point... It seems that in particular surfers from the North-East of England share sympathy with the Scottish surfers as I'm sure similar selfish acts have occurred on their shores. Basically this was unneccessary...this doesnt need to keep being explained. there are some kooks on here that dont get it, but any surfer who lives on a coast with decent waves understands... there was a better way of going about things...to the people responsible

	Boydie, I have been surfing in the north since about 1988 and have always enjoyed the feeling of exploration this coast encourages. I moved to NZ for 5 years and have come back to find that a once well known, but not well publicised coast is now splattered all over the surf press. I agree with your comments about respect for local views and I am annoyed that they are being ignored.
