A taste of Rest Bay on sweet autumn swell, big enough to get your pulse racing as you approach the beach and with a clear blue sky and light offshore/crosshore winds :) I missed a lot of the best rides, seemed to spend most of my time filming wipeouts and missed rides, but managed to capture a few moments which will hopefully serve as a reminder of a good session for those out there and make you feel green with envy if you were stuck at work - or like me stuck on shore recovering from injury ... Grrrr!

	just a quicky how big in foot wud u say thay wer? it was quite a fat wave, on the reports it said it was about 5ft it def felt biger.

	They always do feel bigger than when you're on land! Filming I was at a high vantage point so the shot will compress the wave slightly making it seem a little less high, but taking that into account and assuming the surfers were not midgets I reckon some of the waves were definitely more at the 6 to 7" mark, but I'm not that experienced in judging these things and there's a macho tendency in surfing to undersize waves so for those of you who surf Waimea on the weekend it was about 1/2 a foot if not flat. BTW I've emailed you a link to a file hosting site of your wipe out in slightly higher res MPEG2 format aswell as the main vid in widescreen wmv format. 	yea was def me that pulled up an drove off my car is a silver rally car i was 3rd in the water and ther was a group ov boys waiting 4 it 2 get smaller do u belive ha ha i did hav second thoughts about going in cos my board is 7ft an hard 2 duck dive, after the bail i had, the f***ing rail saver went through the rail.. gutted!! i still surfed 4 about 3 hrs after tho. i will email u if u can send me tha vid i wud b over the moon, chears o and btw my email addy has the no.2 in it so u nw its me k.

	was a cracking day, i had surfed croyde the day before and Rest was pumping, shame you didnt get mroe rides but many thanks for the post...prsonally sker is a better wave than rest and is usually less crowded, give me a shout if you are taking the cam down again wont you? Id love to get some film up and running for a video i want to make about south wales surfing called Endless Winter (obviously!) people who surf coney as opposed to rest msut be flippin mad if rest was working this well!!

	Thanks, I'd love to catch it big but messed up with onshores cos then only those who can will be out there so your not wasting your time shooting beginners like myself! Like over the summer one evening it was well overhead on the rocks and only 2 guys were out there - after Huriccane Bill I think. The waves were that big they could snake down the face before deciding which way to go - obviously Cordell below wasn't one of them. I love that wild feel to Rest and would prefer thrashing for my life out there for one good ride before coming in beat anyday to pussy footing around on smaller close outs at Coney. Definitely up for contributing any footage to Endless Winter! Until the bloody tendons in my left arm heal filming Rest is about as close to the waves as I'm gonna get! Surfing by proxy you could call it. I live next to Rest Bay, 3 mins from my front door till feet hit sand :) so I can pop down anytime to film. Depends on my mood which can be pretty f%$£ing depressed at the mo' with a veeeery sloooow healing injury driving me insAAANNEE!! Breath deeply Yabt.....relaaaax, and above all DO NOT look at the guy parked outside your house changing frantically into a wetsuit outside your living room window before he sprints down to the beach, otherwise Yabt will think dark evil thoughts! What I couldn't believe about Weds 21st, best swell in ages, was that guys were sitting in their cars with their boards while the waves went unsurfed for well over an hour and only started going in after the first guy did - insane waste - I mean I was gagging to get in! I even saw a guy pull up, take a look and drive off again????!! Maybe scotty2hotty shame on you :) Anyway if you want to meet up, copy some footage you can contact me at yabtserevoli@gmail.com the actual footage is widescreen so looks better. In case you're wondering about the name, my mother an escaped Russian ballerina came to Wales of all places and married my dad, patriarch of the local Italian Serevoli icecream dynasty who incidentally lost out to the Sidolis....believe that and you really are a Muecnhklerr.

	The first ride was filmed at 8.38 am and the final one at 10.35. I was out there at 7 just as it was getting light and it was a truly awesome sight witnessing it with no one out there begging to be surfed. I then returned just before 8.40 to quickly show my kids the waves before school. The guy on the black bottomed board had the best of it as even by 8.40 he was the only person out there! Unfortunately just as I arrived I missed filming him have a much better ride than any I filmed later. Before I had a chance to get my camera out he came swooping down what seemed a VERY LARGE set wave and carved the sort of deep power bottom turn you rarely see at Rest Bay as the waves don't normally give enough room for that sort of manoeuvre. The waves were definitely bigger between 7.30 and 8.30 and had dropped off a bit by the time I'd got back by 9.20 having dropped my kids at school - not that anyone was complaining with the size remaining! Not that I've got the the level of experience to be giving advice being quite a novice surfer myself, but personally I reckon when the waves are this big at Rest Bay high tide isn't too much of a problem, provided you time your paddle out right and they're not too close together. At this size they break far enough away from the rocks allowing you to ride in front of the life guard building without too much to worry about. Where it does get tricky is if it's packed 'cos at high tide you've got a lot of people jostling over a small take off zone with umpteen beginners floundering in the impact zone (one of them probably me!) scuppering any ride your lucky enough to catch. For one lucky surfer on Weds morn this wasn't a problem he had to contend with.

	im prity sure its me who gets drowned at around the 30 second mark. ther was only 3 ov us out 4 about 30 mins iv only bn surfing realy since xmas and my pulse was def racing... i sat on the rocks 4 a min swallowed an give it a go. respect to the outher 2 out ther they new thayr shit. real gd day apart from a broken board!!!
