With nice offshore surf and no oil in sight, everyone got to forget about BP's Black Summer Sludge for a little while and just have some fun.

no one deserves what that oil has done to us here on the gulf coast...

Opinions are dumb when they are filled with political and emotional belligerence. It's a surfing video, on a surfing website. With surfing forecasts and things. Nice waves for the locals though.

Too right dude, wish I was surfing them - makes you wish summer lasted forever!

In Summary then all Americans drive big cars and have big fridges, all English people have bad teeth, both English and Americans have a vested financial interest in BP. Most of us care about the sea, can separate Barrack's political motivation with the actual event and realise that we are too dependent on oil. All of us are less than perfect and we've all been greedy and selfish in some way in our lives at some point. As surfers we get on planes and use vast amounts of oil to get to that isolated little wave in the middle of the pacific for our own selfish satisfaction. That's why companies drill for oil. On that note, I have to go!

Hahahah....everyone hates us until they need us to bail them out... U can call us yanks but don't forget we raise the American flag not the British flag u lost that battle awhile ago....

Whoa people just chill for a moment. I understand that people directly affected by the oil spill are angry and I don't blame them, but name calling and making comments about the British such as ''no seeing dentist quacks'' and about being knocked out of the World Cup etc is pointless, and Gulfcoastsponger we don't all drink tea...that's just stereotyping! Rabatter did make one good point, though he could of said it in a nicer way, and that was that was that America has large stakes in BP as well over 40%. Its not the British citizens fault for what has happened but the fault of ''greed''. Greed of the company for wanting money and big profits but most of all the ''greed'' of man. No matter which country we live in we are all to blame, so lets ALL take a step back and look at our lives and see how reliant we ALL are on oil based products and what our lives would be like without them. The most important thing here is what this spill has done to the marine life, the environment and how all this has affected local peoples incomes, and not getting one over on each other and no hate against other countries. I've been talking to American friends who are disgusted with the fact that even some people who live in America are not ''bothered'' by what has happened, just because it hasn't affected them directly because they live in an entirely different state(s). The British people feel saddened by what has happened, but what can we do other then show our support for you? We too would be absolutely devastated if such a terrible thing happened here, and if all of the oil isn't cleaned up and gets into the jet stream there is a chance that some of the oil could reach the beaches of Europe. So please don't hate the British people for something that we have no control over, because we feel for you guys, we really do.

well said dudette! american company was running the rig under contract through BP, american laborers were doing the drilling, american politicians that allowed drilling in such deep water, american cars/SUVs demanding all the oil and gas, american voters that elected the politicians, and american fingers pointing at britain. Current models have the CRUDe making its way to SC's & NC's pristine beaches as early as summer 2011 and brit isles and europe by the fall 2011. We are all in this together so suck it up and quit pointing your fingers and instead wrap them around a shovel and go clean a beach!

Oops silly Dudette getting her Jet and Gulf streams all mixed up. I meant Gulf stream really.......I did....really.....honest ;p

You have us pointing the finger in the wrong direction. We are not pointing it at Britain, we are pointing it at BP a company, our govt and money. Just like you don't all drink tea, we don't all drive the gas guzzlers either. A lot of assumptions have been made and the biggest one is picking up a shovel and cleaning the beach. It's not that easy. Have some sympathy please. If you lost your homebreak, your fishing, your livelihood, marine life, a break in the food chain, our childrens playground, generations of tourists yearly trips, then I am sure you would understand the emotions and behaviour that we are going through. It's not a normal thing for us but poses a threat to the whole world. China is in the midst of a spill now. The WHOLE world needs to re-evaluate lifestyle with dependance upon oil.

I didn't say that anyone was pointing the finger at British citizens. However what I DID actually say was that there was no need for silly name calling and other comments that were made towards us Brits for something that is way beyond our control. If you re-read my comment I pointed the finger at "greed".......of both the company and ''greed'' of man, and NOT Americans but man in general. And again I made NO generalisations of your way of life and the vehicles that you drive. I thought that I had make it clear that we have sympathy for you, and the way that this terrible spill has affected not only your environment but also your incomes and way of life........but obviously not because otherwise you would not be saying ''Have some sympathy please''. But like I said previously we all need to step back and look at our life's to see just how reliant we are on oil based products. Which basically means what you said about the whole world re-evaluating its oil dependency, not only because of incidents like this but one day soon it will all run out.

I won't run out, there's plenty left, it's just getting harder to extract and that's why BP and the others are into deep water drilling. It will certainly get more expensive that's for sure. But who are we to complain? Those surfboards aren't made of magic pixie dust!

p.s. nice vid!
LauraB1605 days ago +4 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
You made some valid points about looking at our lives and I thought you post was very "classy" if you will. I made the comment about sympathy before you even made a post and I was not saying you were the one claiming we were pointing at Britain. That was in reference to another comment. I actually felt a sigh of relief when you mentioned our economy and the marine life because it was dead on with what we are experiencing and for a moment it was comforting to know that someone in another country understood and you still do. Name calling is not neccassary you are correct. But it's like attacking someones child and claws just come out. I don't understand any of it because I assume we are all water people since we are on a surf site. We can't let a crisis destroy what bonds us all together and that is the ocean. Thanks for your comments, and even checking out the video. We are proud of our break and despite how it appears, these are good local people that would do anything for anyone with grace and a smile!

It's all cool Laura, and if that had happened over here my reactions/feelings would be the same as well I should expect. I know that it's going to take time and a lot of work, but I hope that some type of normality if thats possible, returns to your beaches for you all to enjoy :)

Mankind has pushed boundaries for as long as we have been around. That is what drove the first people to leave the cave and cross the first hill. You say that the economy has taken a turn for the worse? F*ck the economy. What price is a life worth to you? We (mankind) take what we can, and as much as we can, to satisfy our lust for materials and wealth. We have destroyed ecosystems and habitats, with complete disregard. Everbody is so quick to point the finger at those 'responsible' where, in fact, WE are responsible. Everybody that uses a bi-product from oil is responsible. You say shame on you, I say shame on us!

Does anyone besides me find it incredibly insensitive and in poor taste and bad timing for advertising to appear(I just noticed it 5 minutes ago)on MSW promoting the tax advantages of investing in oil and gas drilling? I am withholding commenting on BP(an important part of many British citizen's pension (and other) investments/portfolios) and the CEO before Tony Hayward(a scapegoat)...The "Sun King"... who's now part of the new British government and it's 'restructuring'. Oops, I'm sorry...that just 'leaked' out. Here is the link to the ad in case it suddenly "cannot be found" on MSW...http://www.wwxploration.com/oil/?gclid=CMrLxcSdk6MCFRY75Qod7GSkpQ

Dudette, couldn't agree more. Got nothing but sympathy for everyone affected by the spill, it's truly tragic. It's all a bit deep, but the trouble is that us humans are an utterly shit species, we're not happy unless we're destroying things for our own supposed gain. We strive for growth at the expense of our natural resources, and guess what, it's not sustainable. The only good thing to come out of the BP disaster is that it will shake up the safety standards across the industry. Let's face it, the industry will continue to take greater and greater risks so we damn well need it shaken up to prevent this happeneing again and destroying more breaks, environments and lives. Nice vid tho.

Couldn't find that link Coelocanth so it looks like admin has removed it or my computer has gone all weird again....I dunno. But I got to say that it's not just the British citizens pensions that will benefit out of this. Every person in ANY country whether they have been employed by BP or some form of investment will eventually benefit from BP (remember Americia has a large percentage in the company as well). But as for the British Government......well that's a matter for British citizens to decide what's what and how to deal with it. And Plunga I agree with everything you said, and you couldn't of put it any better.

Nice footage Bubba!! No matter who is to blame it's happened and if someone from another country can not sympathize with all that is lost then shame on you. Actually you may understand how we feel if it makes it's way to Great Brit. but I pray you never know.

gulfcoastsponger1618 days ago +2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
you need to realize that the whole reason this started was a BP official blew off chunk of the blow out preventer that workers kept bringing him on the rig

Wish the Yanks would wise up and realise that they own as much of BP as the brits and stop making us the scapegoats, maybe it will make them wake up, dump wasteful vehicles that cant turn and our slower than anthing we produce half the size. As one of the biggest polluters in the world it kind of serves them right, they gave the permits and allowed themselves to drill there, so maybe they should look to their own country, government and lifestyle instead of doing the usual yank 'pass the buck' thing, dont forget what they have done to the middle east, vietnam etc..

What are you doing on a surfing site anyways? You obviously are not a surfer otherwise you would care what happened to any ocean. No one, especially the life, deserves any of this anywhere!!!!!!!!!!
