Surf conditions at 6.30 a.m. on Friday 5th July 2013:
It's a brighter and lighter morning than it has been for a good while, the surf is rolling in at about three feet, the wind is light and it's feeling properly mild!
That light wind is breezing in from the west, maybe the west north west and so it's not helping the surf much. There are three foot waves rolling ashore, a little bumpy and crumbly because of the wind direction but still holding some shape, the occasional inside ones turning themselves inside out.
The set waves are lining up across the back of the Reef and the Point, the better ones folding, the others a bit bumpy and messy. With just a little bit of patience and some timing you could score some really good ones but it is going to help to be a bit choosy.
After saying all that, the tide is half way out and so it is probably at its worst and this breeze is forecast to drop even more through this morning. It's one of those days when the early bird is probably going to be hanging around until conditions improve!
And so they should by lunchtime.
This afternoon could be good and it might even be really very good!
