Calm Cross-Shore wind
Surf conditions at 7.20 a.m. on Saturday 1st March 2014:
Ah, you can hear the silence!
That wind has pretty much disappeared at last, if only for a while! And so the air is filled with the sound of roaring surf and birdsong instead of the relentless roaring of that ferocious wind.
And the surf is almost good here this morning, almost enticing, almost worth the paddle.
Right now there are five to six foot waves blasting in, all glassy faced and tempting but a bit rushed and hurried, bumpy lines still bouncing into each other. For such a large wave-period swell, those waves are still mixed up and close together. It needs a bit of an offshore wind on it to smooth these swells out, which is actually being forecast for this afternoon!
Whether that will happen and whether it will have that organising effect, well, we'll have to wait and see but right now it is all a bit frustrating. All the ingredients are there but it's just not happening yet! Somewhere must be going off this morning, probably quite a few 'somewheres' but not here, not yet.
But it is nice that the days are stretching out a little. Only a little but it's suddenly noticeable!
It won't be long before the pre and post work/school crews start getting on it. All that we really need are some settled conditions allowing for some cleaner swells instead of these non-stop storms!
But that will come with Spring I'm sure!
With that thought in our minds we have a bit going on in the shop!
All that lovely new spring and summer stock is already on its way to us and so we will have to clear a bit more space!
This winter's water temperatures having been so mild, we do have a whole bundle of wonderful winter wetsuits leftover! So we are going to have a MASSIVE CLEAR-OUT SALE THIS WEEKEND!
