Surf conditions at 7.30 a.m. on Thursday 17th January 2013:
The wind seems to be just a little fresher this morning, still light and still just about offshore but maybe with a little sideshore to it.
And that is putting just a little bump on those three to maybe occasionally just about four feet waves. The breeze is just that bit more southerly this morning.
But there are waves and they do look like they are going to be fun again, they're just maybe not quite as sharp as yesterday afternoon but then they are bigger!
Shame about the weather, there's a bit of drizzle in the air and that's stingingly cold, other than that it's a little dreary but not too bad for mid January.
So, we should be enjoying really good waves somewhere but I don't know whether to wait for this afternoon's tide, that wind might be stronger by then again though, or get in while it's still calm. Or maybe venture just a little further afield?
Sorry we are a bit late in getting the surfcheck up there this morning but it was good to see Pat Cummins of NCS Surfboards (www.ncssurfboards.co.uk) drop by. He was picking up a demo board that we were trialling as a 'maybe' for us to stock in our hire fleet for this coming season. And good it was too! It looks like we will be adding a selection of these maybe more dynamic boards to our existing lineup of hire boards. They are still soft, ideal for 'give it a go' surfers but surfable which is always good for those who have maybe picked up a few of the basics. And so now we turn our attention to which boards we are going to stock in the shop!
Cheyne reckons anything twin-fin, short, wide thick and floaty, and then there are the power brands; Merricks, Lost, Chilli etc,. And of course we'll have a few Sol-Life, Meyerhoffer, 7S, Webber etc..
But what do you think? You know the address (firstname.lastname@example.org) so go on, tell us about the board of your dreams!
And speaking of surfboards,I'm having a clear out at home, so if anyone wants a 9'1 Southpoint Bonga 2 model (Schaper) then I'm whazzing mine out at £325? It's pretty immaculate etc, etc.. I'll get some piccies up sometime.
And we still have that used 9'4 Robert August wood veneer Surf Tech up on the ceiling. That's about £500. We also have a bunch of great new longboards too, by McTavish, Meyerhoffer and others.
