Surf conditions at 7.40 a.m. on Friday 25th January 2013:
How quickly we get used to all this great surf that we have been enjoying recently!
It's still good this morning, in amongst the rain squalls and greyness of a milder (but no better for that!) damp and dreary morning. There's a three to four foot swell still throwing some peeling walls our way but the wind is just a little stronger, still offshore (south easterly) but with a bit more south to it. And that is putting a bit of a lump into those waves.
A couple of weeks ago we would have been hooting and hurrying but after the last run of clean and sharp waves, it's looking just a little less steep, a little lazier, just a little fatter.
But it is still good!
If you like these offshore conditions, get on it and make it quick, that wind is going to change. By this evening it is likely to be more south than east.
Following my mention yesterday of the increase in boat lights bobbing around out there in the early morning, thanks for all the info that you've sent in. It seems that the big and spooky looking boat (in that early dawn half light) of yesterday was the research vessel 'Cefas Endeavour'. It is tracking down towards St. Ives right now. How do I know this?
Well there's a site called marinetraffic.com/ais/ which shows what ships are where. Everywhere. So thanks to all of you who provided us with loads of info! This internet world is a powerful information source!
