Surf conditions at 7.15 a.m. on Thursday 28th February 2013:
Oooh, it's a 'scrape the screen,' morning with a pretty layer of sparkling frost brightening up this cold and still dawn.
The surf is pristine, smaller than yesterday but still a decent three feet, especially on the sets. Yep, it's sparkling and dancing, peeling and reeling, high tide peaks and tubes aplenty.
The wind is light and still offshore, the sun is pushing through that cloud dappled blueness of sky and, well, it is all looking pretty good for another day of fine surfing!
Just choose your preferred break, wax up and slide on out there!
Rumours continue within the surf world that Quikky have dumped all but the super elite of their sponsored 'athletes' while also cutting back on staff and many of the other brands that they do ( business.transworld.net/123285/features/quiksilver-and-dc-cut-athlete-teams-staff-brands ). It's an interesting story to pop up only a couple of days ahead of probably surfing's biggest event, the Quiksilver Pro at Snapper on the Gold Coast of Australia.
And now Bob McKnight and Andy Mooney have leapt to spin the story a little more positively at www.shop-eat-surf.com/news-item/4686/mcknight-and-mooney-set-the-record .
It sounds like most of the surf companies are having to work hard at the moment, I don't know if that is a sign of too many businesses competing for the same thing, or fewer customers for their products or just lack of finance? Perhaps the sight of only a handful of people surfing is the future? Has the bubble burst? Is that necessarily a bad thing?
