Fiji, Samoa + Tonga Surf Reports and Surf Forecasts

About Fiji, Samoa + Tonga

At Polynesia's heart lie the Fijian and Samoan island chains with Fiji's Cloudbreak and Samoa's Boulders as the poster boys of the region. Reef surfing here is not for the faint of heart and beginners are probably advised to try their luck elsewhere. No continental shelf and almost 360 degree swell window offers possibilities in most swell and wind combinations - so long as you have a boat. The dry season from April to October coincides with the south swell season but also brings with it the south-east trade winds. The wet season brings less wind but also slightly less consistent swells, though it is during this time that big swells can propagate down from North Pacific. Whilst Western surfers found these islands in the 1960s the Polynesian people had been already staked their claim sometime before. Water temperatures remain a tropical 27 to 29ºC or 81 to 84ºF year-round.
