About Indicators

Just down the beach from Domes, around the corner and nearly in front of the Lighthouse, lies the Indicators peak. So named for the exposed rock in the middle of the lineup and the fact that it is a good indicator of sets approaching The Point and Maria's, Indicators is a dicey proposition when it's happening. You need to take off nearly in front of the rock, and if you're a real daredevil, you can tempt fate and try to challenge the Deadman's peak, right in front of the rock. As you race down the line, a warped section of wave begins to stand up around a chunk of reef exposed on all but the highest tides. This can sometimes usher in the best section of the wave, so be ready when it starts to bowl up around the rock as it's a good way to measure the tube. The rock can also separate the outside peak from the inside section and help spread the crowd out a little.
