The tranquil, azure waters of the Dominican Republic's south coast may not be where you'd expect to find a variety of setups. Go during the summer, and you'll often be treated with overhead waves. Highlights include the rivermouth wave of Playa Bahoruco, a 100 meter lefthander that can barrel at size. There's also the reef at Santo Domingo called Guibia, which enjoys sheet-glass mornings – good for all levels. If you can travel, there's a range of spots all along this stretch.
