Software Engineer

We're looking for a Software Engineer to join our team. As a Software Engineer you'll be working with a small team of engineers on consumer facing products for MSW. You'll have strong understanding of core engineering principles and production experience with software engineering techniques like automated testing, source control, deployment pipelines, infrastructure and agile planning. We're looking for someone driven by a desire to deliver user experiences that other companies aspire to.

This position will report to magicseaweed's Engineering Manager and is based out of our office in Kingsbridge, South Devon. With a focus on industry best practice combined with a relaxed working environment, we've got the perfect opportunity for someone who doesn't want to compromise on either career or quality of life.

What You'll Do:

  • Build efficient, high-performing websites and systems that are standards-based and work across browsers and platforms.
  • Write efficient, clean, readable, fast, testable, documented, monitored code and systems.
  • Deliver new features to production.
  • Contribute to the product development, mission, and success – way beyond checking off development tasks.
  • Collaborate with Product Designers and other Software Engineers to deliver compelling user-facing products.
  • Work closely with other engineers in a small, informal team environment.
  • Ship code often in a fast paced agile environment with continuous deployment.
  • How We'll Define Success:

  • Story point/complexity burn down.
  • Smooth, efficient delivery of small-medium features.
  • Lack of major PR refactoring.
  • What We're Looking For:

  • A BS/MS in Computer Science or related degree.
  • Production experience building web applications.
  • Experience working with PHP, MySQL and Apache/Nginx.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS and JS.
  • Strong knowledge of Web API's.
  • Experience writing software tests (Integration/Unit).
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to learn/adapt to new technologies.
  • Top notch communication skills.
  • Passion for building beautiful frontend experiences.

  • You May Also Have:

  • Experience with Node, Express, Docker, React, Redux and Webpack.
  • Experience with other NoSQL DB's like MongoDB.
  • Experience with AWS services like EC2, ECS, ALB, Lambda, S3 etc.
  • Understanding of Linux and AWS technologies.

  • *You don't need to be surfer to work for us. We design and build a web application, not laze around at the beach. Although if you have an interest in it or another action sport of a similar nature you may receive a high 5 so definitely mention it.
