US Nor'Easter: New York Boom For One Morning Only, Houses Washed Away on the OBX!

A significant storm off the east coast of the US ripped to shore on Monday. When we say significant, we mean, we clocked seas of 15-feet that were even bigger off shore. When it gets that kind of unruly, the local surf contingent are out for shelter.

Western Long Island was one of the only standouts as this thing swung in – or if you knew of a south facing spos to escape that howling cross, onshore 45mph wind, you might have been in luck. There were a couple of moments of brilliance though, particularly in the morning before the wind mauled it all to death.

“Monday morning was solid,” said Long Island photographer Brian Shannon. “Just those few moments of gold before the wind totally destroyed it.”

What about New Jersey and the OBX? All washouts. And you've if you've been following Brett Barley, you'll see the destruction along his home in Cape Hatteras. “It was starting to flood a few hours before high tide,” he said. “It's getting worked by that big nor'easter, but that's all part of life on a sandbar.”

Imagine seeing your pal pull into this from the shore. How quickly can you move those paddlers to get out there?

Amidst the devastation though a couple of houses have been completely destroyed during the storm along the Outer Banks. Struts supporting the home were completely knocked out and the house was washed out to sea.

This storm has now begun its pilgrimage south, where we could see some large surf for parts of the coast and way down into Florida. In fact, the storm is due to weaken as it drifts southward, sucking the guts right out of this thing – but that wind remains problematic.
