THAT'S (almost) it folks, Kelly Slater is in the driving seat for 10 world titles after Mick Fanning lost to Travis Logie, pretty much putting his title charge on the skids down in Portugal.
Jordy is still in the race at the Rip Curl Pro and all eyes are refocussing on the young Saffa as he attempts to prevent the last few stops on the tour becoming a formality. The idea of anyone ever being in with a shout of 10 titles in surfing ever again is pretty unimaginable. So if Kelly does it, you can only stand back and admire him putting the the finishing touch to an epic career. Maybe he'll try for 11?
After a delayed start airs flew everywhere with the event moving from yesterday's barrel-fest at Supertubos to the walls and ramps of Belgas -- the back-up swell hoover spot. In short period, slightly junky, head-high waves the surfing was progressive, above the lip, and the sun blazed down on the bonkers Portuguese fans packing the beach, hanging off the cliffs by their fingernails.
Peniche is a killer location for an event. The food the people and the surfing have all been at another level. Well done Portugal you're a welcoming place for sure.
