BRAZILIAN surfing prodigy, Peterson Crisanto, Billabong Rio Pro wildcard is looking to cause an upset this week.
The forecast looks good for a start early in the holding period, May 11th-22nd. The 19-year-old from Parana state will be the youngest surfer in the event and certain to draw one of the tournament's big-name seeds in the form of Kelly Slater, Jordy Smith or Mick Fanning.
Crisanto's ability to pull a variety of aerials makes him a legit threat to the sport's biggest names, and surfing in his first-ever ASP World Tour event in familiar waters - he has nothing to lose. The fanatical hometown Brazilian surf fraternity will be pushing him all the way.
Brazilians made up six of eight semi-finalists, at last week's Lowers Pro and last year saw Jadson Andre winning the Brazil leg. A glimpse into the future? What is assured is that the Brazilians are coming.
