In other news Kelly Slater squeaked his heat against Heiarii Williams, needing an 8.71 with a minute or so to go having previously fallen in a stomping tube he summoned another chance out of nowhere and was rewarded with a 8.8. What can you say? The man is a genius and with Taj and Jordy out, the path back to the top of the table is clear.
Speaking about Heiarii he said, "Manoa and him have the same game plan, wait for the sets and get the barrels. Their plan almost worked as the one which would have secured me the heat earlier I got greedy on and fell.
"I'm sitting on a 9th with one result to drop so it's all to play for. There's a certain mindset that wins heats, you have to almost not care, think about it too much and you'll lose."
Let's not mention the idea of 10 titles despite the road unkinking itself slightly today. Slats also alluded to Jordy perhaps failing in his heat due to the pressure of being number one. Pressure Jordy strongly denies having any affect in him at all. But as any sane person knows they all feel the pressure, all the time, the only thing shorter than a pro's fingernails are their names MENSA's roll call.
