Oh sure, it is not the chunkiest, not the meanest we've seen Tahiti's powerhouse Teahupoo rumble shores – but for the locals, this is a damn special session.

You see, it is the first decent session back in the water after being holed up due to COVID-19. And, as you can see from the smiles on face, that feeling of unbridled freedom is second to none.

Thinking of visiting Teahupoo in the future? All you need to make the call, HERE

See Bourez pull into that tube? Effortless from the Spartan – and you'll recall, Michel actually led the global charge to lockdown and get this thing beat, back when this all started. Such validation in this moment, then, as Bourez, triumphant in his global messaging, reaps the rewards.

Bourez is back.

And this is where we are now. In Europe, beaches are reopening after being sucker punched by the coronavirus. Today actually marks the first of surf freedom for beleaguered English surfers, travel restrictions have been relaxed (though you should probably stick to the local), as people begin to wake up to the idea that this pandemic won't be around forever. From an international perspective, it's refreshing to see other communities get straight back in the water – with sensible social distancing of course.

To get a read on the conditions, let's take a peep at the MSW historic forecast (and you can too, sign up to Pro HERE). The swell peaked in Monday evening over in Tahiti, 10.5ft@17seconds from the SSW, coupled with a grooming NNE wind. Again, not the biggest we've seen ol' Chopes, but certainly enough to make the hair stand on the back of your neck for the average Joe.

On Tuesday, the swell dropped throughout the day, but still offered up those throaty barrels you're witnessing throughout – as captured by lensman Romu Pliquet. The whole thing is freedom vibe, right? Enjoy.

Conditions for yesterday, what some would call...playful...Teahupoo.
