It's Back! Brazil's Horror Slab Avalanche

By on

Oh we love Brazil's horror slab, Avalanche. But more importantly, we love (and salute) all the hardy crew who get after this mutant when it rears its dazzling head.

This thing crawled out of the depths over the weekend, went on a bit of a tirade, took a few scalps before sinking back to where it belongs. But not before the likes of Chumbo (of course) and Carlos Burle took up arms in a battle against it. "After towing Lucas Fink and friends into a bunch, I gave the rope a try," said Carlos.

Look at this beast! Carlos, in the guts of it.

"That’s when that mutant came. I felt the adrenaline running high, and I made the first part of it, but I was going too fast. So, I tried to slow down a bit by putting my hands on the wave. What a mistake! Having to slow down under the peak and then having to deal with the gigantic spit…everything was so intense.

"It’s a short and very intense ride. It breaks over a very shallow, irregular rock table. You have to position yourself behind the peak to be able to ride the barrel.

Feel that? It's your stomach hitting your throat.

"The swell was typical storm that comes from southwest of Brazil and throws all the energy on the south and southeast coast of Brazil. This one in particular had more of a southeast direction. That’s good for Avalanche. We followed all the forecast info before we could make the final call. It was a very interesting swell.”
