Joanna Andrade Tows a Nazaré Monster

After setting herself the goal to ride a big swell at Nazaré, this winter – with a little help from Hugo Vau and Garret MacNamara – Joanna Andrade was able to cross Portugal's infamous big wave spot from her bucket-list.

It was a pure feeling and pure adrenaline, Nazaré is a monster.

"I was lucky to be towed by the best, Garret MacNamara and Hugo Vau," recalls Joanna. "It was a pure feeling and pure adrenaline, Nazaré is a monster. It's a heavy but perfect wave."

Joanna's one goal for the rest of the season is to continue chasing big waves. For the time being though, she will be staying in Portugal – a result of a lack of sponsorship – but with Nazaré on her doorstep, there are certainly worst places to be stranded.
