The Pro Zarautz has wrapped up with Jorgann Couzinet and Pauline Ado taking out the contest.

The women’s final unfortunately wasn’t graced with great waves and opportunities for good scores were extremely rare. Pauline Ado made sure to stay on her feet on all the waves she could get and built a scoreboard early on while her opponent Leticia Canales Bilbao made a couple of mistakes in her final.

“I’m super happy, I haven’t had great results in recent events so this feels really good,” Ado said. “I really love this place, the people and the waves so it feels great to win again here. I love trying to improve myself in every way, surfing, physical and mental strength so that’s what keeps me going. I still have a lot of fun in my heats too.”

The wind settled for the men’s final and waves improved drastically to give Jorgann Couzinet and Maxime Huscenot more opportunities. The two Reunion Island surfers started with a good wave, Couzinet performing two big turns while Huscenot got a much longer ride and multiplied his manoeuvrers. Huscenot got the nod with a 7 over Couzinet’s 6.17.

Couzinet got a long wave of his own later on and destroyed it with his signature raw power and rail surfing to post a 9 point ride and take a commanding lead on the Final. Despite Huscenot’s many efforts, Couzinet kept the upper hand and walked away with his second win on the Qualifying Series.

“I made the final last year here so I’m stoked to win it this time!” Couzinet said. “I was with my good mate in the water and that was really fun, we wanted to give a good show. I’m getting more and more confident with every event and I have great support which definitely helps.”

The next stop on the European Qualifying Series will take surfers down to Portugal for the Pro Santa Cruz pres. by Oakley later this month.
