One Year On: Tribute to the Five Dutch Surfers Lost to the Sea

By on

A year ago today was one of the worse and most tragic accidents in surfing's history. Five Dutch surfers paddled out at their local Scheveningen and all of them drowned due to excessive amounts of sea foam in the water. The news rocked the surfing community in the Netherlands and it is an incident that will never be forgotten.

Today, a group of friends, family and anyone who wanted to pay their respects gathered on the harbour that overlooks where the five were killed. “It's crazy what a contrast today was with a year ago,” said one attendant. “It was mirror flat this morning.” Above is a tribute to those who died that day a year ago.
