A young surfing celebrity who is already a legend in his own lifetime spent the day on Watergate beach in Newquay last week.

Kai Lenny, seventeen-year-old Hawaiian, guest of Skindog Surf School and sponsored by Oxbow Surf Wear Company, ripped up the Cornish waves with the locals while offering surfing tips to members of Skindogs surfing school and any other members of the public looking for expert advice and tips.

A confident, friendly and relaxed Kai was more than happy to hang out and joke around with all who came to see him, including local surfers, press, members of the Joe Way Appeal and of course the younger surfing enthusiasts. Towards the end of the day and before his last surf at Watergate beach he carried out a signing and photo session for all of his avid fans.

When asking Kai about his time in Newquay, Kai said; “It’s been great, we’ve been up to the flow rider and I’ve meet some really cool people. The surf was a little flat today but it’s always good to get in the water”
Kai arrived in Newquay last Tuesday evening to hang out with the locals before hitting the surf the following day.

He and his team stayed overnight at the Hendra Holiday Park to help raise awareness for the {|Joe Way Appeal}.
Newquay toddler Joe Way died two years ago after battling with a host of life- threatening conditions, Joe’s father Matt Way is the manager at Hendra and had this to say about Kai’s visit to Newquay; “We were delighted to provide accommodation when asked by Ben Skinner as this has been a great opportunity to showcase Newquay on an international stage, the oxbow team really enjoyed staying in our Watergate luxury van which is new this year and Kai had a tour around the park including the Oasis fun pool to meet our lifeguard team”.

In fact the Oxbow team’s visit to Hendra went so well that Hendra are now hosting the official Skindog Boardmasters Surf Camp at the Hendra Holiday Park. For more information on how to book go to
